There's always time for the blues. This original by John Clayton (and recorded by the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra on “Heart and Soul”) is set in a bluesy and relaxed tempo and provides lots of room for soloists to “holler” at each other. After the opening conversation between two trumpets, the sax section lays down the main theme followed by answers provided by the brass. Solos for tenor, alto, trombone, piano follow, and finally the full band takes us the rest of the way. This is a great chart to settle back on and just swing!
