This work was inspired by a search for the meaning of the composer's last name “Bolcom”, and the deep dive into his ancestory that followed. Although in one movment, there are several sections, each depicting one of five of the composer's forefathers. Premiere: American Brass Quintet, Aspen Music Festival, July 7, 1980. Recorded by same on New World Records NW 377-2. Dedicated to Leslie Bassett.
