Ted Ricketts | Hal Leonard Ted Ricketts Ted Ricketts is a highly creative music professional with national and international experience producing and directing live and recorded music. In his 24-year tenure as Music Director and Producer for Walt Disney World, Ted contributed to hundreds of stage shows, parades, concerts and atmospheric instrumental and vocal groups for Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. In addition, he produced recordings in major cities in Europe, Asia, Canada and the United States. As an innovative composer, arranger and orchestrator, Ted's commissioned and published works have been heard on television, commercially produced albums, in Walt Disney theme parks, and performed live throughout the world. Mr. Ricketts holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Masters of Arts in Music from California State University at Long Beach. Early in his career, he served as Assistant Director of the marching band and concert band at Long Beach City College. At the high school level, Ted was Director of Music at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, CA. In recent years, Ted has been a college instructor in Commercial Music Arranging at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Luckily, he gains enough courage to save the day by baiting some gullible seagulls. Earthworm looks at James as a brother figure. Cast a performer who can sing well, and more importantly, someone who isn't afraid of being a little outlandish. Gender: Male Vocal range top: A5 Vocal range bottom: B3 Spiker and Sponge Spiker and Sponge are the sort of aunts (or monsters) that you fear ever being stuck with. They take James into their home but only so that he can be their own personal servant. Spiker is the brains of the operation, and Sponge is more concerned with finding something to eat. These are great character roles for two young performers who are fantastic singers and actors. To play into the humor, cast a duo that contrasts completely in physical appearance. Gender: Female Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: F3 Ladybug Ladybug immediately takes on a doting, maternal role in James'life. This is a fantastic role for a performer with a great singing voice and a regal demeanor. Gender: Female Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: A3 Vagrants The Vagrants, including Doreen Driggles, Ridgley Rapscallion, Violet Funkschmeller, and Chris Cryermouth are an ensemble of have-nots to support Spiker and Sponge's treacherous plans. These ensemble roles are important for making up the world of the musical. The Passing Man, Man (with wallet) and Passing Woman all have featured moments where they fall victim to Spiker and Sponge. Gender: Any Spider Spider is a clever creature who becomes a fun-loving older sister to James. A young woman with a spunky personality and a great voice is a perfect choice for the role. Gender: Female Vocal range top: C5 Vocal range bottom: B3 Matron Nurse The Matron Nurse runs the Painswick Orphanage, and you definitely get a sense she hasn't had a vacation in years. This is a great acting role for a young woman who can command a room. Gender: Female Sharks And Seagulls The Sharks and Seagulls are featured in "Plump and Juicy." Cast strong movers and dancers in these roles. Gender: Any Reporters The Reporters, including Ida Walters, are on the scene just as the peach is becoming larger than life. Cast a group of energetic performers. Gender: Any New Yorkers New Yorkers, including the Screaming Women, Lucille Van Kooglestein, Bunny Mackenzie The Third, Jake and Joe all witness the peach land directly on the Empire State Building and are sent into a panic! Cast a handful of characters for these cameo roles. Gender: Any Zoo Crowd Mr. Trotter, Mrs. Trotter, Karl Kreatour and the Zoo Crowd are all part of James' nightmare. These are small, featured roles, so feel free to cast from your ensemble. Gender: Any Farm Animals, Willy Wonka And Oompa-Loompas Farm Animals, Willy Wonka and Oompa-Loompas are all in harm's way as the peach outgrows its stem and rolls towards the ocean. These are very fun cameo roles for performers with personality. Gender: Any Hollywood Agents The Hollywood Agents, led by Buzz, jump in on the success of the growing peach with movie and Broadway deals for Spiker and Sponge. Like the Reporters, this is a fun group to cast with some lively performers. Gender: Any Billy and Bobby Bobby-Cop Billy and Bobby Bobby-Cop are a perfectly unified pair of cops working for Scotland Yard. This is fun cameo role for two performers who work well together. Gender: Male Ladies Bitsy Botana and the rest of the Ladies' Garden Guild are in flowery frocks and hats, intent on having Spiker and Sponge give the keynote speech at their conference. A few young performers with good voices will do the trick. Gender: Female Cruise Ensemble The Cruise Ensemble are various vacationers en route to New York with Spiker and Sponge. Cast a strong singer and dynamic performer in this role. Ariel has some beautiful solos but must be able to convey meaning through gesture once she loses her voice. PRINCE ERIC Prince Eric is the adventurous prince who captures Ariel's heart. Look for a charming performer with a sensitive nature. Prince Eric has a few small solos, but it is more important to cast a strong actor in this role. SEBASTIAN Sebastian is the meticulous and anxious crab who tries to keep Ariel safe while getting to lead some of the most memorable songs in the show! Sebastian can be played by a boy or girl. FLOUNDER Flounder is Ariel's sincere and sensitive best friend who is loyal to the end. This spunky fish also has a show-stopping solo in "She's in Love." Flounder can be cast with a girl or a boy with an unchanged voice. KING TRITON King Triton rules the sea and is a force to be reckoned with. This non-singer needs to command the stage as a strong leader but also show the tenderness of a parent. Cast a mature performer who feels comfortable playing father to Ariel and the Mersisters. The Mersisters The Mersisters (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana) are Ariel's siblings and full of personality and sass. These are great roles to showcase talented singers and dancers who can create and play six distinctive characters. URSULA Ursula is the manipulative sea witch who tries to overthrow King Triton. She is cunning and devious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. TENTACLES The Tentacles are extensions of Ursula, perhaps the poor unfortunate souls who are now trapped in her lair. FLOTSAM & JETSAM Flotsam & Jetsam are Ursula's slippery spies. These electric eels are sinister and sneaky, so look for performers who can be underhanded and devious while still being heard on stage. Flotsam and Jetsam can be played by boys or girls. SCUTTLE Scuttle is the know-it-all seagull who serves as Ariel's expert on humans. He is funny and off-beat. Look for a performer with good comedic timing who is willing to have fun with Scuttle's eccentricities. Gulls The Gulls are Scuttle's flock of zany "back-up singers" who help explain human stuff to Ariel. GRIMSBY Grimsby is Prince Eric's prim and proper valet. He is rigid in personality and constantly trying to guide Prince Eric towards the throne. CHEF LOUIS Chef Louis is the over-the-top head chef in the palace. He is always wild and frenetic. This is an excellent featured role for a comedic performer. THE CHEFS The Chefs are Chef Louis's assistants. CARLOTTA Carlotta is the headmistress in Prince Eric's palace and Ariel's greatest human ally. This non-singing role needs to be warm and maternal to make Ariel feel welcome. THE SIX PRINCESSES The six Princesses try everything they can to win the heart of Prince Eric. The six Princesses can double as the six Mersisters. THE PILOT The Pilot is the head sailor on Prince Eric's ship. THE SAILORS The Sailors are the crew of Prince Eric's ship. THE SEAHORSE The Seahorse is the court herald for King Triton. SEA CHORUS The Sea Chorus is responsible for creating each world within the show. The Sea Chorus can double as Merfolk, Sea Creatures and Lagoon Animals. MERFOLK The Merfolk of King Triton's Court and can double as Sea Creatures. LAGOON ANIMALS The Lagoon Animals try to convince Prince Eric to kiss Ariel. This ensemble can double as the Sea Creatures.

Tom Eggleston | Hal Leonard Tom Eggleston Tom Eggleston of Athens, GA, began playing piano and trumpet at 9 years old and was playing piano in his church by age 13. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS, and a Master of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He's been the National Missionary for Creative Arts/Special Events Ministries, North American Mission Board, Alpharetta, GA, 19 years; Assoc. Director of Music & Worship, SC Baptist Convention, 6 years; Minister of Music, 19+ years (KY, WV, GA, SC); concert artist, clinician, and composer. He's currently the Minster of Music at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, GA. When he's not working there he's usually composing original anthems or hymns, or arranging classic hymns; playing the ocarina (a globular flute), piano or trumpet; sculpting ballons; hula hooping; or exercising at the YMCA! Buryl Red | Hal Leonard Buryl Red Buryl Red, as a composer, arranger, conductor, orchestrator and producer, has participated in literally thousands of projects, many of them award-winning, for television, film, recording and publishing around the world. Starting with his first public performance at age four as soloist in a tent revival in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas, his musical life has been unusually diverse and eclectic. After earning degrees in music from Baylor University and Yale University, he took up residence in New York City where he has one of the most advanced digital and computer music studios in the city. Several of his choral works are considered landmarks in their fields. He has been author, consultant and producer of some of the most widely used school music textbooks in the United States. He is the Musical Director of The Centurymen, a professional male chorus whose members are themselves choral conductors. His works have been described by the Washington Post as "uncommonly creative."

Linda Spevacek | Hal Leonard Linda Spevacek Over the past two decades, Linda Spevacek has become one of the most successful composers in modern choral music. She has sold more than 7 million copies of over 700 published compositions and arrangements. Linda has continued to keep her compositions original and creative while maintaining the consistency and integrity that has given her a world-renowned reputation. Dynamic, inspiring, creative and expressive are just a few words that describe the level of excellence found in every Linda Spevacek composition, arrangement, seminar and reading session. In addition, singers from all over the world performed her arrangements twice on the nationally televised MENC World's Largest Concert on PBS. Several of her works have been premiered at annual conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference and on the Hour of Power at the Crystal Cathedral. Linda was a featured conductor at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1999. Her work has won repeated awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in recognition of her outstanding achievements and success. She has composed commissions for many large massed groups around the country (many of these compositions have become signature pieces for the choirs). In addition to membership in ASCAP, Linda is a member of The American Choral Director's Association (ACDA), The Music Educators National Convention (MENC), the National Teachers of Singing (NATS), and Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), a professional sorority of women musicians. In addition to her published titles, she has authored seven choral collections, five piano books and six vocal collections. Linda's energy and devotion to working with singers at all levels have resulted in numerous invitations as guest conductor for various national, state, regional and choir, church, and school honor festivals. Linda's schedule includes conducting, judging and teaching across the United States and Canada. Linda has an education degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with her primary emphasis on voice, piano and theory. She has since worked extensively with elementary, junior and senior high school choirs, community choirs consisting of youth, high school, college and adult levels as well as church choirs of all sizes and denominations. Linda is one of the most sought after judges, workshop and reading session clinicians in the country. Her dynamic clinic presentations include a variety of topics from vocal technique, creative programming, teaching musical sensitivity through literature, success with the non-singer, recruiting and teaching males, editing accompaniments, composing a mini-opera, creative workshops combining youth/adult choirs, working and recruiting the male singer and a motivational/inspirational sessions. Joseph M. Martin | Hal Leonard Joseph M. Martin Joseph Martin (b. 1959 ), a native of North Carolina, earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Subsequently he earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the University of Texas, Austin. Joseph taught for five years in the Piano Pedagogy Department of the University of Texas. His piano teachers include Jimmy Woodle, David Gibson, Amanda Vick Lethco, Martha Hilley and Danielle Martin. While at Furman University, he was accompanist for choral director and composer Milburn Price and, inspired by his teaching, Martin began to compose. He is a member of the staff of Shawnee Press as Director of Sacred Publications, with responsibilities for overseeing the editorial and creative direction of the company’s sacred publications and also coordinating the recording and production aspects of future sacred publishing efforts. Joseph has performed solo piano recitals and has been the featured artist with symphony orchestras in the United States and Mexico. As winner of the Nina Plant Wideman Competition, he performed with the Guadalajara Symphony Orchestra. His solo recital in Ex-convento del Carmen was broadcast nationally throughout the country. Though he continues to perform in concert, he now devotes his efforts to playing in churches and for conferences of church musicians His first solo piano recording, American Tapestry, was nominated for a Dove Award. This album, along with his other recordings (Songs of the Journey, Celtic Tapestry, and A Christmas Tapestry) has been enormously popular in the sacred and secular markets. He has recorded for Yamaha's Disklavier series and has composed hundreds of commissioned works. Recognized throughout the United States for his many choral compositions, over 1200 compositions are currently in print and the list continues to grow. His composition ""Pieta"" was recently honored with an award from the John Ness Beck Foundation. In 2008 he was inducted as a National Patron of the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity. Along with Mark Hayes and David Angerman, Joseph has co-authored a fully graded, progressive piano method for the Christian student called Keys for the Kingdom. His major works include nearly 40 choral cantatas and extended works and Song of Wisdom, a choral tone poem based on the best-selling children's book, Old Turtle. His music can be heard in such diverse locations as Carnegie Hall in New York City; the Lawrence Welk Theatre in Branson, Missouri; and in hundreds of worship services in churches across the United States and Canada. In addition, his works have been performed in cathedrals in Germany, Austria, England, Ireland, Scotland and Austria. Rodney Miller | Hal Leonard Rodney Miller After graduating from Lebanon Valley College in 1977, Rodney Miller spent 17 years teaching in Lebanon School District, where he taught strings in grades 3 through 12. Miller also directed the middle school jazz band. For the last seven years before his death in 2005, he was the elementary instrumental music instructor. Miller was a recipient of the Lebanon Valley College’s Creative Achievement Award in 2003. Two years later, he was posthumously awarded the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 7 Distinguished Service Award, and at the same time the PMEA changed the name of this award to the Rodney S. Miller Distinguished Service Award. For the Lebanon School District, Miller ran the instrumental summer lessons program and initiated a scholarship program for students who could not afford to pay for summer lessons. He was also actively involved with the Cedar Foundation, an organization that helped to get instruments to students who could not afford them in the Lebanon School District. Miller was a six-time ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Standard Award winner. He had over 40 instrumental and choral works published by music publishing houses, including Shawnee Press, Alfred Music, Warner Bros., TRN Music, Educational Programs Publications, Brixton Publications and Kagarice Brass Editions. Miller did graduate work at VanderCook College in Chicago, The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, West Chester University, and the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts. He arranged and performed with the Dave Stahl Sacred Orchestra. For over 20 years, Miller was co-musical director/arranger for the Timbers Dinner Theatre in Mount Gretna, where he lived. Genie Genie is the fast-talking, scene-stealing funny man. Your Genie doesn't need to be the strongest sing and dancer - the ability to do comedy is much more important. Cast a naturally funny actor that will make this character his or her own. Princess Jasmine Princess Jasmine should be cast as feisty and rebellious, yet genuinely sweet and somewhat naï¿½ve. Jasmine is a future leader with strong opinions on how things should be done, and the audience needs to see this side of her as well as the side that Aladdin falls for. Iago Iago is another great comedic role. Like the Genie, he or she need not be the strongest singer, but comedic skills are a must. Iago has several sarcastic jibes and asides. Jafar Jafar is the villain. In order to portray this through casting, consider a taller boy with a changed voice. His songs will not only be more effective, but a deeper voice will help convey Jafar's menace. The Sultan The Sultan should be able to play a father figure convincingly. Although a bit scattered, he needs to be able to portray love and care for Jasmine. Narrators The Narrators (5) can be any combination of boys and girls. All should be able to sing well and speak clearly since they are responsible for setting scenes and advancing the plot. Guards The Guards, including Razoul, need not be the strongest singers. Cast students with good comedic skills who can carry a tune. Ensemble The Ensemble consists of Townspeople, Shop Owners, a Baker, a Matron, Harem Girls, etc. They should be good actors who sing well, as they are featured in all of the production numbers. Magic Carpet The Magic Carpet works best when treated as a character in the show. Rather than a platform on wheels with no personality, having two actors puppeteer the Carpet adds much more fun and creativity. Despite praise from the thugs, Curtis doesn't believe Deloris and her singers are ready to perform in his club. After this rejection and a disappointing Christmas gift, Deloris decides that she deserves better, walking away from Curtis and his club with confidence ("Fabulous, Baby!"). However, Deloris is unwillingly drawn back in when she accidentally witnesses Curtis murdering Ernie for being a police informant. Curtis confronts her, but she flees. Deloris goes straight to the police station where Officer Eddie Souther takes an interest in what she has to say. Immediately recognizing the officer as "Sweaty Eddie," a boy who had a crush on her in high school, Deloris puts her faith in Eddie, trusting him to find her a place to hide from her dangerous boyfriend. Eddie thinks of "the perfect place," Queen of Angels Cathedral in South Philadelphia. Mother Superior hesitates to take in the "wayward woman" Monsignor O'Hara describes, but upon his insistence, she agrees. Both Deloris and Mother Superior are shocked when they discover Deloris will be hiding there for a month. Mother Superior is especially distressed to discover that Deloris is not religious. She describes Deloris's new environment to her, handing her a nun's habit to wear ("Here Within These Walls"). Mother Superior introduces Deloris to the nuns, referring to her as Sister Mary Clarence "from a more progressive order." The nuns say a prayer and begin to eat dinner, but when Deloris complains about the food, Mother Superior proposes a fast. While Deloris complains, the nuns enthusiastically share all the reasons why they love being nuns ("It's Good To Be A Nun"). Mother Superior and Deloris are left alone, and Mother Superior has a proposition: would Deloris like to join the choir? The singer quickly says she will. The next morning, Deloris arrives at choir practice and is immediately shocked at how terrible the choir sounds. The nuns, however, are amazed at Deloris's musical talent. Taking the musical baton from choir leader Mary Lazarus, Deloris reminds the nuns that they are "rejoicing" and "singing to the Lord." She encourages the nuns to sing louder, to sing on key, and to blend with each other. By the end of the rehearsal, the choir sounds incredible ("Raise Your Voice"). The choir continues to impress at the next church service, where they draw crowds the church hasn't had for a long time ("Take Me To Heaven (Nun Choir Version)"). But not everyone is impressed by the choir's new sound - Mother Superior calls Eddie to the church, asking him to take Deloris away. Eddie relays this command to Deloris, who is frustrated and concerned that Curtis will find her. She is disappointed with Eddie, and Eddie wishes desperately that he could be her knight in shining armor ("I Could Be That Guy"). Deloris approaches Mother Superior about the choir, trying to get her to understand their performances could be beneficial to the church. Mother Superior disagrees... until Monsignor O'Hara reports that the church is receiving a large number of donations. Mother Superior agrees to keep Deloris in the choir, and the next church service is even more energetic than the previous one ("Sunday Morning Fever - Part 2"). Positive publicity flows in, and the choir is even invited to perform for the pope! The nuns are ecstatic. However, all the publicity has a price - Curtis and his thugs recognize Deloris on TV. They hatch a plot to get into the convent and steal her away ("Lady In The Long Black Dress"). Right before their performance for the pope, the nuns nervously gather in Deloris's room. They ask her to lead them in a blessing, and she does ("Bless Our Show"). Suddenly, Mother Superior bursts into the room, telling Deloris she is in danger and must leave. The nuns are confused - who is Deloris? The musician reveals her true identity and the reason she has been staying in the convent. Though the nuns are shocked and saddened by the news, sweet young postulant Mary Robert approaches Deloris and asks to go with her. The young woman is beginning to doubt being a nun is her true calling ("The Life I Never Led"). Deloris tells her she can't make Mary Robert's decision for her; she must figure that out herself. Mary Robert leaves Deloris her rosary, and Deloris expresses her wish to stay with her sisters ("Sister Act"). The nuns are rehearsing for their performance for the pope when Deloris walks into the room. She has chosen to perform with them, and the nuns are overjoyed. But their joy is quickly interrupted when they hear the sound of a window breaking. Curtis has come for Deloris! The nuns scatter, attempting to hide their sister. After a few minutes of antics, Curtis corners Mary Robert, and Deloris steps in to protect her. Benjamin Britten Article | Hal Leonard Distributed by Britten Home YouTube Festival Biography Choral Publications Article: Explore the Choral Music of Benjamin Britten by Paul Spicer Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) was a unique force in British music. Of the fine composers among his contemporaries, none wrote such a wide variety of music across such a broad spectrum of genres and for such a range of ages and abilities. In many ways, though he might have been surprised by the comparison, he was the natural successor to Vaughan Williams, whose instincts for community and the nurture of amateur musicians brought him an almost cult-like status in Britain. Britten did not devote himself so wholeheartedly to these things, but a sizeable proportion of his choral music is easily within the reach of a good ordinary choir, another part is well within the grasp of a reasonable church choir, and there is, of course, all the music he wrote specifically for children. Among the 60 or so non-operatic choral works there are also works which are exceptionally demanding and perhaps best left to professionals and outstanding amateurs. The range of this output and the frequency of performance of the better-known works underline Britten's ubiquity in the world of choral singing, not just in the English-speaking community but far beyond. As with many composers who have devoted themselves to writing a large corpus of music for one particular genre, Britten has suffered from being too well-known for a few familiar pieces. Rejoice in the Lamb, A Ceremony of Carols, Hymn to the Virgin, Hymn to St Cecilia, Jubilate Deo in C and others have tended to obscure the fuller picture of Britten's choral output and, if nothing else, I hope that choral directors will look beyond their favourites and explore the rich variety of music which is still almost undiscovered. Schools, or choirs of upper or lower voices, will find music here of wonderful quality which rarely sees the light of day. Similarly, there is a genuine mix of sacred and secular and some useful blurring of the edges where words can be equally appropriate in either context. I hope that the corresponding online guide will also be of real practical help to those who aim to build programmes which may be structured in specific ways - thematically, by voice type, by religious or non-religious setting, or by the balancing of a well-known piece by a less-familiar or almost unknown work. It is a spirit of discovery and adventure which should fire the imagination, and it is a love of all this music which has inspired the commentary writing. Britten was a practical composer. He knew that the music he wrote was performable because he himself was an accomplished professional musician. This is, again, where the Vaughan Williams analogy holds true. To be there, in among those doing the singing, directing the performance, advising other conductors and acquiring great expertise and experience over a creative lifetime, gave him an unusual insight into what choirs enjoy singing. He discovered what levels were attainable by different types of group, and did much to encourage that sense of ambition which has led to a genuine rise in the quality of amateur choral music-making. Britten was also a practical composer because he gave his performers all the information they need to deliver a convincing and 'authentic' performance - his scores have clear and unambiguous performance directions throughout. He is known to have remarked that, if musicians follow his instructions to the letter (and can play or sing the notes in an accurate and musical fashion), they will give a performance of which the composer would approve. So the principal instruction to choral directors is to prepare the score thoroughly prior to embarking on rehearsals. Read the words in order to understand Britten's setting of them, and mark, learn and inwardly digest Britten's clear instructions about speed, dynamics, phrasing, and, often most importantly, articulation. The mood of a piece so often comes from the composer's approach to the text. Britten tended to choose texts which were not widely set by other composers. But to compare, for instance, his two connected settings of Gerard Manley Hopkins' "God's Grandeur" in A.M.D.G. and "The World of the Spirit" with Kenneth Leighton's version is to clearly demonstrate the point. No two responses could be more different and yet each excitingly shows the composer's individual reaction to the poem. To examine Britten's popular Jubilate Deo in C alongside Howells' Collegium Regale setting of the same words written some fifteen years earlier is, again, to emphasize how their idiomatic interpretations of the text helped shape each piece. Britten's style grew out of the English choral tradition he knew so well. He had not been a cathedral chorister but had boarded at Gresham's School from the age of 14. There he was exposed to the standard repertoire of the Anglican Church and his earliest well-known piece, "A Hymn to the Virgin," was written when he was only 16 and still a schoolboy. It unequivocally shows his feeling for the beauty and potential of choral sound, so it is no wonder that such precocious talent should develop to the extent it did. While there are pieces from his output which are more stylistically searching, this early gem sets the scene for a choral output that is essentially approachable, tonal, lyrical, and pleasing to both performer and listener. R. Kevin Boesiger | Hal Leonard R. Kevin Boesiger R. Kevin Boesiger received a Bachelor of Music Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a Masters of Music in Music Composition from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He is the Creative Arts Pastor at Christ Community Church in Beatrice where he has served since 1990. Boesiger was previously the Choral conductor for Southeast Community College in Beatrice where he directed the choir and served as the musical director for their stage productions for 12 years. He has studied with Mark Hayes, Dr. Randall Snyder, Tyler White and Boyd Bacon. Kevin performs and conducts on a regular basis for many community events, adjudicates and is a guest clinician for composer events. Randall Hartsell | Hal Leonard Randall Hartsell Randall Hartsell began his music career as a piano performance and pedagogy major at East Carolina University. His attention turned quickly to the joys of piano composition. Growing up in North Carolina provided inspiration to express the beauty of his native state with lyrical, romantic pieces. His music has expanded beyond the expressive melodic music to also include more advanced and technically demanding compositions as well as clever and creative elementary pieces. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.
