Hal Leonard Announces Winners in Expanded YouTube Vocal Competition
World Leader in Vocal Publications Received Hundreds of Entries in Second Annual Internet-Only Contest, Now Encompassing Both Art Song and Musical Theatre Competitions
MILWAUKEE - The world's largest music print publisher is proud to announce the winners in its second Hal Leonard Vocal Competition, which now features both Art Song and Musical Theatre categories. Last year the company debuted the innovative contest for voice students comprised entirely of YouTube video entries - the first legitimate voice competition held entirely on the internet. For this year's event, the number of contestants almost tripled.
Nearly 1,000 Art Song and Musical Theatre submissions from throughout the U.S. and Canada poured in in four categories: College/University Voices (undergraduates, ages 18-23), High School Voices (ages 16-18), Early Teen Voices (ages 13-15), and Children's Voices (ages 12 and under). A panel of qualified experts judged these entries on voice quality, clarity, diction, musicianship, musicality, expression, communication and presentation. There was no fee to enter the competition.
First-place winners took home cash prizes of $1,000, and second- and third-place winners received generous Hal Leonard gift certificates. A complete listing of the results for each category is below, and videos of the winners singing are at www.halleonard.com/vocalcomp/.
Rick Walters, Hal Leonard vice president of classical and vocal publications, comments, "Our goal for this contest is to provide student singers and voice teachers with an opportunity to have fun and explore new repertoire. As was the case last year, we were impressed by the talent and commitment of the contestants, and we're encouraged by the growth of the contest. Details of the 2013 competition will be announced this summer, and we're already looking forward to reviewing the submissions!"
