Robert Cavally Catalog Now Published and Distributed by Hal Leonard
New Deal Adds Hundreds of Woodwind Method and Repertoire Titles from Famed Flute Performer and Pedagogue
MILWAUKEE - Hal Leonard Corporation has secured exclusive rights to publish and distribute the Robert Cavally catalog. This prestigious catalog consists of over 200 publications for flute and other woodwind instruments, including method books and solo & ensemble repertoire. Effective June 1, the deal was reached by Hal Leonard Senior Vice President Herman Knoll and Bootsie K. Mayfield, the accomplished flutist and Cavally protégée whose BKM Enterprises, Inc. now owns all Cavally copyrights.
Robert Cavally (1906-1994) was a world renowned flutist, teacher and author. He studied with Ary Van Leeuwen, Marcel Moyse and Phillipe Gaubert, and performed in orchestras under John Phillip Sousa, Igor Stravinsky and Arturo Toscanini, among others.
Cavally's publications - including the multi-volume Melodious and Progressive Studies - have been standards in the repertoire for decades. Beloved by students, teachers and professionals alike, his literature is a staple for auditions and solo & ensemble competitions throughout the world.
Hal Leonard will be the exclusive worldwide distributor of the entire Cavally catalog, with titles beginning to ship mid-July. Cavally bequeathed to Mayfield his unfinished teaching techniques to finish. These highly anticipated pieces will be published by Hal Leonard and released within the coming year.
Knoll comments, "Cavally contributed enormously to the instrumental world, compiling and editing more flute literature than anyone before him. His publications have stood the test of time because they are organized in a developmental and progressive way, with amazing attention to detail."
He continues, "We are proud to distribute the Cavally catalog, and we know that instrumentalists will be thrilled to see Bootsie's masterful completion of Cavally's methods."
Acknowledging her selection as curator for the Cavally catalog, Mayfield says, "It was a tremendous honor and a huge responsibility to work with Mrs. Cavally in identifying and securing the best possible publisher to print, protect, promote and distribute the massive Robert Cavally catalog. Because his works are known and sold all over the world, it was imperative to find a publisher with a global reach. Hal Leonard met every criterion in size, scope, presence and reputation."
She adds, "I am delighted to place the Robert Cavally catalog in the capable hands of Hal Leonard, and I look forward to a long association with this world-renowned publishing company."
