Hal Leonard Expands Magazine Distribution with NewBay Media Deal

Guitar World, Guitar Player, Bass Players, Keyboard, Electronic Musician, Mix & Revolver Amont Flagship Mags Now Available

MILWAUKEE - The world's most widely read and respected music magazines are now available from Hal Leonard Corporation. A new deal with NewBay Media makes genre-leading magazines - including Bass Player, Electronic Musician, Guitar Aficionado, Guitar Player, Guitar World, Keyboard, Mix, Revolver and more - exclusively available to the US and Canadian MI trade from Hal Leonard, starting with the current issues of each title. Headquartered in New York City, NewBay Media is one of the largest providers of music content in the world, reaching more than 5 million musicians, professionals and enthusiasts each month through a sophisticated platform of magazines, digital and mobile offerings, events and more. Their magazines and websites offer broad-ranging interviews that cover gear, technique, instruments, culture, lessons and lifestyles. Hal Leonard began distributing magazines in October of 2009, and since then, the business has blossomed to nearly 50 top-flight titles, including Modern Drummer, Jazz Times, Premier Guitar, Drumhead, Fretboard Journal, Making Music, Christian Musician, and other leading brands. Under the company's greener, more efficient distribution model, dealers no longer have to return covers and destroy magazines that don't sell. Instead, the products are theirs to use however they please, in connection with local music education initiatives, for instance. David Jahnke, VP of national sales for Hal Leonard, says, "We're elated that we've finally reached a deal with NewBay Media. They are one of the biggest players in the magazine world, and musicians hold their brands in high regard." He continues, "Our retailers will be thrilled that they can add Guitar World, Guitar Player, Keyboard, Bass Player - and all of the other hot NewBay titles that their customers demand - directly to their regular Hal Leonard orders, without the hassle of having to go through a separate distributor. Like music print, magazines make great profit centers, providing high margin, fast turnover and repeat business, all in a small footprint." Bill Amstutz, VP/publishing director of music for NewBay Media, comments on the deal, "Hal Leonard has a unique and successful distribution network in place to reach music retailers with an impressive roster of deliverables. We're eager to make use of their central location and expert sales staff to get our magazines into more accounts, and ultimately, into the hands of more musicians - and to better service the stores who currently carry our titles." This deal represents the latest development in an already-close relationship between the two companies. So recognizable are the NewBay magazine brands that Hal Leonard has licensed their content to create stand-alone publications. Bestselling titles include Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time and Guitar World's 50 Greatest Rock Songs of All Time, and more titles are currently in the works.
