Cast of Characters

Cast Size: Large (21 or more performers)
Cast Type: Teens

Delilah

Smart, kind, and well read. Her life has been upended by her parents' bitter divorce, and she finds herself in a new school where she becomes the target of the most popular girl. To escape, she turns to books.
Gender: Female
Vocal Range Top: B5
Vocal Range Bottom: F#3

Prince Oliver/Edgar

A classic fairy-tale prince. He's charming, sincere, and intelligent. Oliver wishes for the freedom to live beyond the confines of the story that has been written for him. The authors want the actor who plays Prince Oliver to double as Edgar at the end of the play. Edgar is the son of Jessamyn Jacobs, the author of the book Delilah is obsessed with.
Vocal Range Top: F#5
Vocal Range Bottom: G3

Ms. Winx

The school librarian, who has a long- standing literary crush on Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. She's sassy, is strong, knows exactly who she is, and encourages Delilah to join the writing club.
Gender: Female
Vocal Range Top: B2
Vocal Range Bottom: G#2

Ondine

A strong, confident mermaid who's tired of playing second fiddle to a prince. Ondine leads "Do It For You" along with fellow mermaids Marina and Kyrie
Vocal Range Top: C6
Vocal Range Bottom: Ab3

Princess Seraphima

The quintessential princess: beautiful, eloquent, and ready to live happily ever after. However, once the book is closed, she is the exact opposite: self- absorbed, grating, and not very bright.
Vocal Range Top: D2
Vocal Range Bottom: B2

Jules

Strong, confident, and perfectly fine with being the odd one out: the living embodiment of "live the story you want if it's not the story you're in."
Vocal Range Top: Bb3
Vocal Range Bottom: G2

Allie McAndrews

The school's resident queen bee. She's very smart but uses her intelligence to rule the school as an entitled "mean girl."
Vocal Range Top: A4
Vocal Range Bottom: F3

Ryan

Allie's boyfriend, definitely a "dude's dude." Content with being one of Allie's minions, he doesn't have an informed opinion about pretty much anything and not many original thoughts either.
Vocal Range Top: B4
Vocal Range Bottom: G3

Janice

Allie's right-hand gal. She goes along with Allie's bullying and definitely prefers being a minion to being bullied by Allie.
Vocal Range Top: C5
Vocal Range Bottom: A3

Martin

The social media director of Allie's minions. A teen internet troll who bullies Delilah through social media posts, he's fine to go along with Allie's schemes.
Vocal Range Top: B4
Vocal Range Bottom: G3

Rapskullio

A classic evil villain, but when the book is closed, he is the exact opposite: ultra-sensitive, kindhearted, and in touch with his feelings.
Vocal Range Top: A4
Vocal Range Bottom: E3

Grace

Delilah's stressed-out mom. She's going through a divorce, and while she's trying to make everything work, she just can't seem to get ahead. Grace has good intentions; she's just overwhelmed.

Frump

Prince Oliver's best friend who is half dog due to a curse placed on him by the evil Rapskullio earlier in the fairy-tale book. He is hopelessly in love with Princess Seraphima, who doesn't understand that he isn't really a dog.
Vocal Range Top: A4
Vocal Range Bottom: G3

Troll

A grunting, monosyllabic monster; when the book is closed, he wishes that he were playing a different part.

Queen Maureen

Prince Oliver's fairy-tale mother. When the book is closed, she lets her sass fly free and isn't afraid to express an opinion.
Vocal Range Top: A4
Vocal Range Bottom: F#3

Lady-In-Waiting

Attendant to Queen Maureen.

Mrs. Brown

The high school chemistry teacher.

Jessamyn Jacobs

A widowed mother of a teenage boy and author of Between the Lines. She's a little quirky, but she's also very smart and intuitive.
Vocal Range Top: Bb4
Vocal Range Bottom: F3
