The DETTINGEN TE DEUM in D Major, HWV 283 (also TE DEUM FOR THE VICTORY AT THE BATTLE OF DETTINGEN) is George Frideric Handel's (1685-1759) final setting of the Te Deum hymn, written in 1743, only a month after the battle. The work, along with THE KING SHALL REJOICE, resulted from a commission to celebrate a day of public thanksgiving upon the return of the commanders, King George II and Lord Stair, following their victory over the French. The final chorus, “Oh Lord, in Thee have I trusted,” is introduced by the trumpets, followed by an alto solo before the entire chorus and orchestra close the work in magnificent power and harmony. Choral part available separately for sale from the publisher.
