Christine Bass | Hal Leonard Christine Bass Former director of Temple University’s Men’s and Women’s Choruses and Assistant Professor of Music Education, previously DCA at Cherry Hill West high school where her program grew from 60 to 325 in seven choirs. Christine taught Choral Conducting at Rowan University, her choirs have performed at multiple ACDA and MENC National and Eastern Conventions. Her men’s a cappella group, Men of Note, won three consecutive National Championships for Best of High School A Cappella. A Westminster Choir College graduate, receiving their Alumni Merit Award, Alumni Ambassador Award, New Jersey MENC Master Music Teacher and the Governor's Award. Christine has conducted numerous All State and Honors Choirs including the 2009 ACDA All National High School Honors Choir. She is a guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician presenting workshops across the country and internationally. Her educational products are "Vocal Transformation", "Where The Boys Are: Recruiting, Engaging and Maintaining Tenors and Basses” and “Front-Loading Your Choral Rehearsal” all on Hal Leonard.

2023 Voices of Distinction > The King's Singers The King’s Singers have represented the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over fifty years. The King’s Singers were formed in 1968, when six recent choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge gave a concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. By chance, the group was made up of two countertenors, a tenor, two baritones and a bass, and the group has maintained this formation ever since that debut.

The Vocal Library Most volumes in this series are arranged specifically for high or low voice, although some are more specifically arranged for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone and bass. The volumes include historical notes, translations, and clear music engravings - all presented in books with long-lasting, sewn binding. Sharon Burch | Hal Leonard Sharon Burch Sharon Burch began teaching general music in 1987. Constantly pursuing the best methods of educationally connecting with students, she is a certified teacher with the International Piano Teaching Foundation, earned a master’s degree as a Professional Educator and uses a combination of strategies to enable kids to experience concepts in the classroom. Teaching creatively, Sharon introduced Freddie the Frog to her classroom of music students in 1995 and discovered the magic of games, storytelling and puppetry in teaching. She authored Freddie the Frog and the Thump in the Night, Freddie the Frog and the Bass Clef Monster, Freddie the Frog and the Mysterious Wahooooo, and Freddie the Frog and the Secret of Crater Island as the first of several adventuresome stories introducing fundamental music concepts. Collaborating with jazz double bass player and elementary educator, Sherry Luchette, the next book introduces jazz through scat and improv in an interactive story—Freddie the Frog and the Flying Jazz Kitten. Sharon and Sherry serve on the Jazz Education Network Elementary Jazz Committee. Sharon enjoys sharing her teaching strategies atmusic conferences and clinics with teachers around the globe and teaches general music to the K-3 students in the Centerville Community School District in Centerville, Iowa. John Clayton | Hal Leonard John Clayton Grammy-nominated bassist/composer John Clayton has gained prominence in both the jazz and classical fields. He studied bass with the late great jazz legend Ray Brown, and has performed with the Count Basie Orchestra and Monty Alexander. For five years, he was the principal bassist for the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to writing for the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, which he co-leads, John has written for Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole, The Tonight Show Band, Quincy Jones and Phil Collins. In 1998, John was named the Artistic Director of Jazz for the L.A. Philharmonic, and he continues to teach at the University of Southern California. Publications by John Clayton

2023 Voices of Distinction > Jonathan Palant Choral Series Jonathan Palant is Associate Dean of the Arts and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is founder and conductor of the Credo Community Choir and the Dallas Street Choir, a musical outlet for those affected by homelessness. Recently, Musical America named him one of their “innovators of the Year” for his work. Jonathan’s initial publication with Hal Leonard was his book “Brother, Sing On! Conducting the Tenor Bass Choir”. This led us to start a series dedicated to young men. Since then, as Jonathan’s profile has expanded nationally and internationally, so has his series and now contains music for mixed voices as well as for young men.
