Cora Scholz | Hal Leonard Cora Scholz Cora Scholz is co-founder of the Northfield Youth Choir and served as Artistic Director until 2005. She served on the faculty of St. Olaf College until her retirement as an instructor in voice and children's vocal pedagogy. A graduate of St. Olaf and the University of Illinois, she was former editor of the Music for Young Singers series with Mark Foster Music, a division of Shawnee Press. Z. Randall Stroope | Hal Leonard Z. Randall Stroope Z. Randall Stroope is an American composer and conductor. He has conducted concerts in 25 countries, is the Artistic Director of two international summer festivals, and has directed music for Vatican masses on 10 different occasions. He has conducted in Hong Kong, Rome, Singapore, Barcelona, Dublin, and St. John (Canada). In the United States, Randall has conducted nearly 40 performances at Carnegie Hall, and numerous appearances at Chicago Orchestra Hall, and other venues. He has conducted 47 all-state choirs. Ensembles under his direction have performed at two national ACDA conventions, four regional ACDAs, and numerous state conventions. He has six albums on Spotify and over 70 YouTube recordings. A native of New Mexico, Randall attended the University of Colorado and Arizona State University, receiving a masters in vocal performance and doctorate in conducting, respectively. He taught high school for seven years in Denver, Colorado, and has been Professor of Music at three universities. Randall has received numerous awards including the Douglas R. McEwen Award for National Choral Excellence (Arizona State University). In composition, Randall’s teachers were Normand Lockwood and Cecil Effinger, both students of Nadia Boulanger, the famous French teacher (and student of Gabriel Fauré.) He has 190 published works, and sold over four million copies. Randall has written commissions for many entities, including West Point Military Academy, Raymond Brock commission (ACDA), Taiwan Chamber Choir, Carols for Choirs 5 (Oxford University Press), Music Teachers National Association, and numerous secondary schools, universities, state music education associations, and professional chorales. Stephen Bulla | Hal Leonard Stephen Bulla Stephen Bulla began his musical instruction at age 6, growing up in a musical household where his father played tuba and his mother played piano. He eventually graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied trombone with Phil Wilson and Composition/Arranging with Herb Pomeroy. In 1980 he won an audition for the position of Staff Arranger to "The President's Own" United States Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra in Washington DC. For the next thirty years he would provide musical scores for a myriad of White House events, beginning with the Reagan era until 2010. Working alongside film score legend John Williams he has transcribed music from "Star Wars," "Catch Me If You Can," and "Close Encounters" for performances by the Marine Band with the composer conducting. These arrangements are now published for wind band by Hal Leonard Corporation. He has also scored music for the Discovery Channel (“Wings of the Luftwaffe” and “Century of Flight”) and PBS television series “In Performance At The White House”. On those occasions his arrangements were performed by Sarah Vaughan, The Manhattan Transfer, Mel Torme, Doc Severinsen, Nell Carter, Shirley Jones, Larry Gatlin, and Jordan Sparks. His commissioned concert works are performed and recorded internationally. The Dutch, British, Swiss and New Zealand Brass Band Championship organizations have all commissioned test pieces from his pen. Stacey Nordmeyer | Hal Leonard Stacey Nordmeyer Stacey Nordmeyer began her career in music publishing as a choral editor and was an editor for the textbook series Experiencing Choral Music, as well as for numerous sight-singing methods, along with music for school, church and community choirs. Now, as General Manager, Choral Publications, she oversees the choral publication process for both Hal Leonard and Shawnee Press. She is also a celebrated composer and arranger, with anthems published in both the Hal Leonard and Shawnee Press church catalogs. She has been active in church music for over 35 years, having served as music director, worship leader, and accompanist at various churches throughout southeastern Wisconsin. She currently directs the praise bands and the adult handbell choir at UNITY Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Stacey holds a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in piano and music theory from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and she is a member of the Milwaukee Handbell Ensemble. Stan Pethel | Hal Leonard Stan Pethel Dr. Stan Pethel is a Professor of Music and Chair of Fine Arts at Berry College near Rome, Georgia. He has been on the music faculty at Berry College since 1973. He holds a Bachelor of Music, and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Georgia and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Kentucky. In addition to his duties as Chair of Fine Arts at Berry College Dr. Pethel teaches music theory, composition and arranging, world music, and low brass lessons. He is a widely published composer and arranger with over 1000 works in publication with 26 different publishers. His writing includes works for choir, piano, organ/piano duet, symphonic band, jazz ensemble, orchestra, handbells, solo instrument and piano, and various chamber music ensembles. He is married to Jo Ann Pethel, a pianist and music educator. They have three grown children.

Steve Smith | Hal Leonard Steve Smith For twelve years, Steve Smith taught middle school band in the Lewisville Independent School District, a northern suburb of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in Texas. For eight of those years he served as the Director of Bands at Downing Middle School in Flower Mound. At Downing, Mr. Smith taught the Symphonic Band, assisted with the Concert Band and taught all of the beginning woodwind classes. The bands at Downing consistently displayed a high standard for musical excellence highlighted by a performance at the 2005 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. In 2012, Steve joined the team at Hal Leonard as an Instrumental Editor. At Hal Leonard, he works with the production of instrumental music and educational materials for band and strings. Steve brings his recent teaching experience to Hal Leonard and is using this in the development of the new Essential Elements Interactive website designed to assist teachers and students at the beginning instrumental level. In 2010, Mr. Smith’s composition Capilano Fanfare was selected in the Dallas Wind Symphony’s Call for Fanfares and received a performance as the opening fanfare for the 2010-2011 concert season. In 2007, Mr. Smith was honored as a “Distinguished Music Educator” by the Yale University School of Music, in conjunction with an international symposium promoting music in the public schools. Steve earned his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of North Texas in 1998 and his Master’s degree from UNT in 2012. While at North Texas, he studied saxophone under Dr. Eric Nestler and performed in the North Texas Wind Symphony under the direction of Mr. Eugene Migliaro Corporon. Mr. Smith has was also involved in the drum and bugle corps activity for over twelve years. After performing with and teaching the brass section for the Madison Scouts, Mr. Smith worked with the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps from Lexington, Kentucky and with the Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara, California. For 8 years, worked with Specialized Administrative Services Inc., providing leadership training for high school band students across the state of Texas. Mr. Smith is an active member of the TMEA and NAfME. Prior to moving to Wisconsin to join Hal Leonard, his wife, Jenny, was an elementary art teacher and is now a freelance artist in the Milwaukee area. They enjoy spending time together and are proud parents to their 4-year-old son Seoul. Publications by Steve Smith

Mike Steinel | Hal Leonard Mike Steinel Mike Steinel is a jazz trumpeter, pianist, composer and arranger. He is presently Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, where he teaches jazz improvisation, pedagogy of jazz improvisation and a jazz trumpet master class. Mike has served on the faculties of numerous jazz camps, including the Clark Terry Jazz Camp and the Jamey Aebersold Improvisation Workshop. He has performed with many notable jazz artists - including Clark Terry, Don Ellis, Bill Evans and Jerry Bergonzi - and he has recorded with the Chicago Jazz Quintet and the Frank Mantooth Big Band. He leads the UNT Faculty Jazz Quintet that performs throughout the United States and Scandinavia. Mike is the author of a book on jazz improvisation entitled Building a Jazz Vocabulary and has published many compositions for jazz ensemble. He is also the author of Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble, a comprehensive method for jazz style and improvisation for young players published by Hal Leonard Corporation. In 1993, he served as Co-Chair of the Jazz Advisory Panel for the National Endowment for the Arts. Mike holds degrees from Emporia State (BME) and North Texas State University (MME). Wendy Stevens | Hal Leonard Wendy Stevens Wendy Stevens is a composer, pianist, teacher, and clinician. She received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy and her Masters of Music in Theory and Composition from Wichita State University where she graduated summa cum laude. Wendy has been a recipient of the MTNA stAR award (Student Achievement Recognition Award) upon graduation. She has also taught theory at Wichita State University and adjudicates for music events in her area. In addition to her studio teaching, she has served as a church musician playing the piano for more than twenty years. Wendy is a member of MTNA, KMTA, and her local association WMMTA. She has served as president and many other positions in WMMTA, and has also served on the board for KMTA. She is a nationally certified teacher of music and is a member of ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. Wendy enjoys composing and presenting workshops on creativity, composition, business practices, and technology. James Stevens | Hal Leonard James Stevens Dr. James M. ""Jimbo"" Stevens (b. 1961) is a published composer of over 200 songs with more than 20 national companies. His music includes works for adult, youth, and children's choirs, handbells, and piano books. Stevens received an undergraduate degree from Samford University, Birmingham, AL; a Masters of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY; and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. Without Love…We Have Nothing, a song that Stevens and Joseph M. Martin co-wrote, continues to be an international sensation with more than 200 different commercial CDs containing it being recorded. It is now being sold and exported all over the world in virtually every musical format. Stevens has won numerous ASCAP Standard Composition Awards and is in demand for his commissioned anthems. Dr. Stevens is currently the Chairman of the Music Department of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN where he resides with his wife, Machelle and daughter, Heather. Pamela Stewart | Hal Leonard Pamela Stewart Pamela Stewart (b. 1953) has more than 150 pieces in publication with Shawnee Press and other major publishers. Several of her pieces have been honored by Creator Magazine in its ""Select 20"" anthems. In 2000, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation commissioned her to write a song cycle for chorus and symphony. Entitled “Sing for the Cure,"" it has been performed at Carnegie Hall and has been recorded featuring Dr. Maya Angelou as narrator. Ms. Stewart has collaborated with such well-known composers as Craig Courtney, Patti Drennan, Mark Hayes and Lloyd Larson. Rick Stitzel | Hal Leonard Rick Stitzel Rick Stitzel holds B.M.E. and M.M.E. degrees from the University of North Texas in Denton. His master's degree is in Jazz Studies. While at UNT, he studied with Leon Breeden, Dan Haerle, Rich Mattesen, Jack Peterson and Lew Gillis. He was a teaching assistant in the jazz area, directing the 3:00 lab band and teaching courses in jazz arranging and jazz fundamentals. Since graduation, he has been active in the fields of jazz education and professional music. He is in demand as a clinician and adjudicator, and has directed all-region and all-state bands. He is on the faculty at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, where he is director of jazz studies and a brass teacher. Rick is active in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a trumpet player and pianist. He is an artist/clinician for United Musical Instruments and plays the new Conn Vintage One Trumpet and Flugelhorn exclusively. Rick has enjoyed a busy career in the recording industry as a composer and arranger. He has composed music for hundreds of radio and television commercials, and has written for live and televised variety shows. His jazz compositions and arrangements are represented on the albums of Pete Petersen and the Collection Jazz Orchestra, The Jim Widner Big Band, and numerous college albums. George Stone | Hal Leonard George Stone George Stone has enjoyed a substantial career in music performance, composition, arranging and education for 30 years. He is the Director of Audio Technology and teaches Music Theory and Composition at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA. Born and raised in Newhall, CA, George was a product of the strong local music programs and teachers of the Santa Clarita Valley. He received his degrees from Cal State University Northridge where he was a member of the renowned Jazz A-Band for whom he wrote extensively. By age 21 he was directing his own Los Angeles big band and writing for live shows and television. Some artists and groups with whom he has been privileged to work include Doc Severinson, Dave Grusin, Tom Scott, Jack Jones, Chris Vadala, Jeff Babko, Bobby Shew, Donny McCaslin, Dave Tull, Luis Bonilla, Maynard Ferguson, Wayne Bergeron, Bob McChesney, Larry Koonse and Ron Jones. He has composed and arranged for NBC, HBO, Warner Brothers, Steve Wynn and Disney. He is also the composer of the most famous MIDI song of all time, “Trip Through the Grand Canyon” (Canyon.Mid) that was released on over 66 million copies of Microsoft Windows. George has appeared as guest composer/conductor at colleges and universities throughout the world. He has adjudicated literally hundreds of jazz festivals in the United States and is commissioned regularly by high school, college and professional bands to compose new music for jazz ensemble. He performs regularly on trumpet and piano, with compositions and arrangements released through publishers worldwide. George Strid | Hal Leonard George Strid George L.O. Strid was born and raised in Oregon. He graduated from Oregon College of Education, and then went on to obtain master’s degrees in composition and music education from Western Oregon State College. George is currently retired after teaching vocal music at the middle school level for 38 years. He is a member of ASCAP, ACDA, and NEA. George has been writing songs and musicals for over 30 years with his writing partner, Mary Donnelly. When George is not writing, he does workshops and clinics throughout the USA and Canada. George and his wife, Karla, live in Olympia, Washington.

Stephen Zegree | Hal Leonard Stephen Zegree Stephen Zegree (1953-2015) was the Bobby McFerrin Professor of Music at Western Michigan University where he taught classical and jazz piano; directed the Gold Company, an internationally recognized jazz vocal ensemble; and performed as pianist with the Western Jazz Quartet, the resident faculty jazz ensemble in the School of Music. The winner of numerous competitions, awards, and honors Dr. Zegree appeared as pianist, conductor, clinician, and adjudicator on five continents. He was a Steinway Artist. Gold Company, his vocal jazz ensemble, won over 45 awards from Down Beat magazine, more than any other college or university, and toured throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and performed at the MENC National Convention, numerous IAJE Conventions, World Symposium on Choral Music, and with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Janis Siegel, Jon Hendricks, Darmon Meader, Mark Murphy, Don Shelton, and Bonnie Herman. Dr. Zegree was a cum laude graduate of Miami University, where he earned the Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. He earned the Master of Music degree ""With Highest Distinction"" at Indiana University in piano and jazz, and completed doctoral studies in conducting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, which included tenure as conducting assistant to Dr. Eph Ehly. Dr. Zegree's choral arrangements are published by Hal Leonard Music Publications, Shawnee Press, and others. He authored the book The Wow Factor: How to Create It, Inspire It and Achieve It, published by Hal Leonard. He also co-produced jazz vocalist Mark Murphy's Nat King Cole Songbook, which was nominated for a Grammy® Award. A renowned educator, his students are among today's leaders in jazz and pop performance, Broadway, recording studio production, writing, arranging, singing, and music education.

Jerry Estes | Hal Leonard Jerry Estes Jerry Estes has taught for over 34 years, and is currently the vocal music teacher at John Burroughs School in St. Louis. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Southwest Baptist University, and a Master of Music Degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Jerry began writing choral music over 25 years ago, and now has over 175 songs, books, and musicals in print with several publishers. He is a member of the National Association for Music Educators, ASCAP, and the American Choral Directors Association. He currently lives in St. Louis, Missouri. Publications by Jerry Estes

Ken Litton | Hal Leonard Ken Litton Ken Litton has served the Parkway Baptist Church of St. Louis, Missouri for sixteen years as Minister of Music and Worship and is the director of the Missouri Music Men Handbell Choir. He has served churches in Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia, Texas and Missouri and as Worship Consultant for the Missouri Baptist Convention. Ken and his wife, Carol and sons Matt and Mark served as Southern Baptist Convention/International Mission Board music missionaries to Brazil from 1986-1998 where he was an editor of the guitar/keyboard edition of the Hymnal for Christian Worship, Rio de Janeiro, 1995. The Litton’s make their home in St. Charles, Missouri.
