Kirby Shaw | Hal Leonard Kirby Shaw KIRBY SHAW has made a major impact in choral music education and has shared his musical expertise in 45 states, Canada, Australia, the Bahamas, China, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, and the Philippines. Kirby has degrees in Music Education and Choral Composition from San Jose State University and a DMA degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington. Dr. Shaw’s teaching is infused with a sense of humor and breadth of knowledge that is transmitted in an exciting and highly contagious manner. Kirby taught in the Mt. Shasta public schools before joining the faculty at College of the Siskiyous in California where he founded and directed the innovative and highly acclaimed COS Vocal Jazz Ensemble. He also pioneered similar groups at Colorado State University and The University of Missouri - Kansas City, and is now directing the Jefferson State Choral Coalition at Southern Oregon University. Kirby has scatted one-on-one with such notables as Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Jon Hendricks (who once told Kirby . . . "Man, you don’t make mistakes!"), Mark Murphy, Greta Matassa, and Chris Calloway. He has overseen the creation of hundreds of educational recordings, five college and university albums and two solo CDs. Kirby is a member of Just 4 Kicks, a zany 4-man a cappella vocal ensemble specializing in Jazz. A composer/arranger with nearly 3000 choral compositions/arrangements in print, Kirby’s music is sung around the world and has sold over 20 million copies. He has many commissioned pieces to his credit, including one for The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This creative and prolific output has resulted in numerous ASCAP awards. Kirby and his wife, Markita have written an original musical based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol entitled SCROOGICAL, soon to be presented at a quality theater near you! Kirby, Markita, and their foofy-newfie/border collie mix, Tux, live in a forest high above Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley.

Crawford R. Thoburn | Hal Leonard Crawford R. Thoburn More than one hundred of Crawford R. Thoburn's choral compositions, arrangements, and editions have been published. Choirs across the U.S. and throughout the world sing his music, with performances noted in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, England, Germany, Austria, France, South Africa, Singapore, India, and Taiwan. Professional, church, and college groups record his works, which have been broadcast on National Public Radio and Public Radio International. At Wells College in Aurora NY, Crawford R. Thoburn is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. His student choral groups have won international awards in juried competition, performed by invitation at ACDA conventions and MENC meetings, toured in the U.S. and Europe, performed with many other college groups, and sung with professional orchestras. He has conducted numerous inter-collegiate choral collaborations, and enjoys a national reputation for expertise in women's choral literature and performance. Professor Thoburn has a B.A. from Allegheny College, where he studied theory, arranging, and conducting with Morten J. Luvaas. In 1999, the Allegheny Alumni Association selected him to receive its prestigious Gold Citation, ""in recognition and appreciation of the honor reflected upon the college by virtue of his professional achievements."" At Boston University, Professor Thoburn received a M.M. and worked as an assistant to his instructor in voice and conducting, Allen C. Lannom. He later studied choral and orchestral conducting with Otto-Werner Mueller, Margaret Hillis, and Robert Shaw. While on a year-long sabbatical leave, he was a member of and soloist with the St. Martin Singers of London, England, under the direction of W. D. Kennedy-Bell. Crawford served on the first National Committee on Editorial Standards of the American Choral Directors Association. His scholarly articles have appeared in the American Choral Review, Wells College Express and the Choral Journal, where he headed the Choral Review Department for five years. At Wells, Professor Thoburn chaired the Music Department, the Division of the Arts, the Centennial Committee, the New Arts Facilities Committee, the Summer College Program, and the Faculty Advisory Committee, and he was named the first Campbell Professor of the Arts. Off campus, Crawford has served many years as a choral director for Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Episcopalian congregations. Walter Rodby | Hal Leonard Walter Rodby Walter Rodby (1917-2005), internationally recognized composer, arranger, conductor and music education received his first public school education on Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range, where he graduated from high school and junior college. He continued his music education at the University of Northern Iowa, Trinity College of Music, and London University and received his advanced degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York City. During his studies in London, he was a member of the Royal Choral Society, directed by Sir Malcolm Sargent, and for two years while at Columbia University, he sang with the celebrated Collegiate Chorale under the baton of Maestro Robert Shaw. In 1959, Mr. Rodby was elected to ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions and arrangements, numbering 350, including nine music books, have been published by 19 American and European publishers. Mr. Rodby taught and directed music groups, primarily vocal, in three high schools and 15 colleges and universities. For over thirty years, he wrote a monthly column “The Choral Folio” for the School Musician Magazine, an internationally circulated publication for the school and church market. Mr. Rodby conducted over 150 festivals and workshops and reading sessions in 20 states and his articles appeared in a dozen state and national periodicals. Mr. Rodby provided significant leadership in every music organization to which he has held membership, including President, Illinois Music Educators Association; President, Chicago Choral Conductors Guild; and President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. From 1970 to 1977, on four separate occasions, he organized and conducted concert tours featuring a 100-voice high school choir, in 12 European countries, including Greece and the Soviet Union. Mr. Rodby was a WWII veteran, and as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer (Captain), he served as Ammunition and Bomb Disposal Officer with the 66th (Panther) Division in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, The Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and two EAME Theatre ribbons. Upon his release from active duty, Captain Rodby served 27 years in the Army reserves, and in 1965, he was promoted to full colonel. Upon his retirement, he received the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1998, he received a special plaque from the Department of Defense WWII Commemoration Committee for “outstanding service” for composing and conducting a special celebratory anthem honoring the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, performed at the famous Punch Bowl Cemetery, Honolulu, Hawaii on November 11, 1977. Mr. Rodby’s awards and honors were many, and included the coveted Steinway Award, the Illinois Music Educators Distinguished Service Award, the Harold A. Decker Award from the Illinois Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, Cook County Teacher of the Year award, and the National Arts Associate Award from Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity, at their 1984 National Convention in Chicago. Doreen Rao | Hal Leonard Doreen Rao Doreen Rao's distinguished career as conductor and master teacher links the standards of professional performance with the goals of music education. Celebrated for her spirited and moving concerts, Rao's commitment to choral music education is recognized in her innovative programming, teaching initiatives, worldwide conducting appearances and her award winning publications with Boosey & Hawkes. Doreen Rao holds the University of Toronto Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting. As the Director of Choral Programs, Dr. Rao founded the Faculty of Music's Centre for Advanced Studies in Choral Music which supports and enriches the Faculty's ensemble and conducting programs, hosts the Elmer Iseler Singers and sponsors the International Bach Festival with Helmuth Rilling. Rao conducts the award-winning University of Toronto MacMillan Singers and Chamber Choirs. Her young ensembles collaborate regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and a roster of internationally celebrated artists and educators. She leads the University's graduate program in conducting performance and teaches graduate research and philosophy courses related to music performance in education. Recognized as one of the world's leading experts on children and youth choirs, Doreen Rao founded and chaired the ACDA National Committee for Children's Choirs, pioneering work that inspired the children's choir movement in America. In a national tribute presented to her by the American Choral Director's Association, eminent American conductor Robert Shaw wrote, "The world of choral music owes her special thanks. She is preparing our future." During Rao's long association with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, she served as assistant conductor to her mentor Margaret Hillis and prepared choruses for concerts and Grammy Award-winning recordings with Sir Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado, and James Levine. Her choirs also performed on numerous occasions with Leonard Slatkin and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and with Helmuth Rilling at the Oregon Bach Festival. The Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia awarded her with their National Citation for her significant and lasting contribution to the cause of American music. She has been honored by the American Choral Director's Association for her commitment to choral excellence. A CBS television documentary called her musical achievements "extraordinary." Following her undergraduate education at the University of Illinois, Rao spent the first years of her career in Chicago singing professionally and teaching choral music in the schools. She served as Music Director and Conductor of the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus, an ensemble that performed and recorded regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Following graduate studies at Northwestern University, she joined the Voice Faculty at Roosevelt University's Chicago Musical College where she performed and taught voice and choral music before accepting an invitation to conduct the Northwestern University Chorus and complete her doctoral studies in philosophy and aesthetics. Rao's innovative Sing with the Symphony school and family concerts were first introduced by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to actively involve audiences in listening as performers. In a pioneering career of "firsts," Rao conducts honor choirs, all-state choirs and festival choirs for numerous national and international conferences, associations and performance organizations around the world. Most recently she enjoyed conducting the inspired young Texas All-State Chorus with Orchestra for the Texas Music Educators Association. Doreen Rao is the Founding Director of the CME Institute for Choral Teacher Education, an internationally acclaimed professional development program for conductors, composers, choirs and teachers. Greg Gilpin | Hal Leonard Greg Gilpin Greg Gilpin is a celebrated ASCAP award-winning choral composer and arranger and a highly respected choral conductor. He is known throughout the United States leading performances at New York City’s iconic Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as well as Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. His international appearances include the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, Royal Festival Hall in London, England and Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland. Mr. Gilpin is also a producer and musician in the recording industry and is Director of Educational Choral Publications for Shawnee Press, a distinguished choral publisher. In 2020, Mr. Gilpin’s “pandemic pivot” took him down an additional career path by becoming certified as a financial coach and a certified Boss Organizer, creating his own professional organizing business, Maestro Organizing. This work has led to appearances on Fox and NBC network affiliates. Mr. Gilpin can also be seen on the hit TV show “Hoarders,” alongside Dorothy Breininger, renowned producer and organizer. In 2021, Mr. Gilpin wrote the score for the award-winning short film, “Rosie’s Rescue” and was awarded “Best Score” for this same movie. He also teamed up with well-known opera singer, Angela Brown, and created the world premiere of a thrilling new arrangement of “What Child is This?”, debuted by Ms. Brown and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. The music world is coming back to life and Mr. Gilpin is excited to be teaching, composing, conducting and organizing! Roy Ringwald | Hal Leonard Roy Ringwald Roy Ringwald (August 10, 1910 - July 11, 1995) Born in Helena, Montana, he grew up in Santa Monica, California and resided in the Palos Verdes Hills at the time of his death. Choir leaders everywhere rated Roy Ringwald as one of the most accomplished arrangers of our time. Before joining Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians as a singer and arranger in 1935, Roy Ringwald was associated with Earl Burnett, Raymond Paige and Andre Kostelanetz. His exclusivity with Shawnee Press began when the firm was founded in 1939. In the early 1940's, at Fred Waring's request, Mr. Ringwald arranged the poem ""The Battle Hymn of the Republic,"" which was written by Julia Ward Howe. The arrangement was performed by Waring's Pennsylvanians on radio June 22, 1943. Fans inundated Mr. Waring's New York office with letters of praise. By 1962, one million copies of the SATB arrangement had been sold and it continues to be a steady seller today. Roy Ringwald's studies in the field of music were limited to the elementary courses he received in parochial and public schools. Thereafter, he studied on his own and learned ""the hard way."" He was playing the piano at paid engagements with a dance group by the age of 12. While in high school, he studied voice, piano, organ, sight-singing, harmony, score reading and history of music. He organized dance bands and pit bands for silent motion pictures; he served as school organist and student director of the glee club; and he played viola with a classical string quartet (rehearsing at 6:30 a.m. before school), which also played paid engagements. Following high school, he went directly into a professional career as performer and arranger, organizing his own professionally successful groups. When he joined Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians in 1935, he soon retired from performing and devoted his entire attention to writing. His work as an arranger and composer has an individuality of style that has retained its freshness over many years. Battle Hymn of the Republic; Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor; God Bless America; and No Man Is An Island are but a few of the hundreds of his stirring arrangements. His larger works such as Song of America and Song of Christmas are further evidence of his talent. Roy Ringwald continued to write music until his death July 11, 1995 at the age of 84. Ryan O'Connell | Hal Leonard Ryan O'Connell Ryan O'Connell is in demand as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, music director, and conductor. His music has been heard worldwide in a variety of venues: in film, on stage, and in the concert hall. He is perhaps most widely known for his popular choral arrangements for Shawnee Press and Alfred. After graduating from the prestigious Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program at the University of Southern California, Ryan has begun to make his mark writing music for media, with his music featured in prominent works such as "Dragons: Riders of Berk" (Cartoon Network). He has also orchestrated and conducted scores for TV and film, such as "Nightline" (NBC), “Wild Things” (NRDC Films), and “Browsers” (Amazon). In the world of musical theatre, Ryan is actively working as an orchestrator and music director, having been involved in over 50 stage productions. Most recently he was the lead orchestrator and music director for the Seattle premiere of “Ernest Shackleton Loves Me” at Seattle Repertory Theatre. Additionally, he recently orchestrated Marshall Pailet’s newest show, Loch Ness. He has also written two musicals of his own, and continues to develop ideas and music for the stage. Stacey Nordmeyer | Hal Leonard Stacey Nordmeyer Stacey Nordmeyer began her career in music publishing as a choral editor and was an editor for the textbook series Experiencing Choral Music, as well as for numerous sight-singing methods, along with music for school, church and community choirs. Now, as General Manager, Choral Publications, she oversees the choral publication process for both Hal Leonard and Shawnee Press. She is also a celebrated composer and arranger, with anthems published in both the Hal Leonard and Shawnee Press church catalogs. She has been active in church music for over 35 years, having served as music director, worship leader, and accompanist at various churches throughout southeastern Wisconsin. She currently directs the praise bands and the adult handbell choir at UNITY Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Stacey holds a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in piano and music theory from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and she is a member of the Milwaukee Handbell Ensemble. Lois Brownsey | Hal Leonard Lois Brownsey Lois Brownsey (Heckman) grew up in Philadelphia, where she attended Temple University, studied at the Guitar Workshop and was active in musical theatre. She has many popular choral works published with Shawnee Press with her writing partner of many years, Marti Lunn Lantz. Together they specialize in multi-cultural music and seasonal compositions. Lois has also written and sung jingles for clients such as AT&T, GMC Truck Dealers and Optical Data Corporation. Lois was active playing in clubs and concerts from 1973 until retiring from live performance in 1997. She has sung, played bass, written and performed in pop, rock and blues bands in the USA and abroad. She presently lives in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, where she is a Celebrant, and active in the political and arts community. Joseph M. Martin | Hal Leonard Joseph M. Martin Joseph Martin (b. 1959 ), a native of North Carolina, earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Subsequently he earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the University of Texas, Austin. Joseph taught for five years in the Piano Pedagogy Department of the University of Texas. His piano teachers include Jimmy Woodle, David Gibson, Amanda Vick Lethco, Martha Hilley and Danielle Martin. While at Furman University, he was accompanist for choral director and composer Milburn Price and, inspired by his teaching, Martin began to compose. He is a member of the staff of Shawnee Press as Director of Sacred Publications, with responsibilities for overseeing the editorial and creative direction of the company’s sacred publications and also coordinating the recording and production aspects of future sacred publishing efforts. Joseph has performed solo piano recitals and has been the featured artist with symphony orchestras in the United States and Mexico. As winner of the Nina Plant Wideman Competition, he performed with the Guadalajara Symphony Orchestra. His solo recital in Ex-convento del Carmen was broadcast nationally throughout the country. Though he continues to perform in concert, he now devotes his efforts to playing in churches and for conferences of church musicians His first solo piano recording, American Tapestry, was nominated for a Dove Award. This album, along with his other recordings (Songs of the Journey, Celtic Tapestry, and A Christmas Tapestry) has been enormously popular in the sacred and secular markets. He has recorded for Yamaha's Disklavier series and has composed hundreds of commissioned works. Recognized throughout the United States for his many choral compositions, over 1200 compositions are currently in print and the list continues to grow. His composition ""Pieta"" was recently honored with an award from the John Ness Beck Foundation. In 2008 he was inducted as a National Patron of the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity. Along with Mark Hayes and David Angerman, Joseph has co-authored a fully graded, progressive piano method for the Christian student called Keys for the Kingdom. His major works include nearly 40 choral cantatas and extended works and Song of Wisdom, a choral tone poem based on the best-selling children's book, Old Turtle. His music can be heard in such diverse locations as Carnegie Hall in New York City; the Lawrence Welk Theatre in Branson, Missouri; and in hundreds of worship services in churches across the United States and Canada. In addition, his works have been performed in cathedrals in Germany, Austria, England, Ireland, Scotland and Austria. Joyce Eilers | Hal Leonard Joyce Eilers Joyce Eilers (July 28, 1941 – June 2, 2009), is recognized as one of the top choral composers in the country, with hundreds of compositions and arrangements in her catalog, best-selling methods for teaching sight-singing, and for her mentoring of young composers. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1963 from Oklahoma City University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Oregon in 1967, where she specialized in Music Education. She taught in the Oklahoma public schools and in Oregon and Washington for ten years at both elementary and secondary levels and was an instructor at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. She was a popular visiting lecturer and clinician, appearing before many state music education conventions and universities including University of Oregon, Oregon State University, University of Idaho, Boise State University, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, University of Kansas City-Missouri, University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, and Arizona State University. Pamela Stewart | Hal Leonard Pamela Stewart Pamela Stewart (b. 1953) has more than 150 pieces in publication with Shawnee Press and other major publishers. Several of her pieces have been honored by Creator Magazine in its ""Select 20"" anthems. In 2000, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation commissioned her to write a song cycle for chorus and symphony. Entitled “Sing for the Cure,"" it has been performed at Carnegie Hall and has been recorded featuring Dr. Maya Angelou as narrator. Ms. Stewart has collaborated with such well-known composers as Craig Courtney, Patti Drennan, Mark Hayes and Lloyd Larson. Brant Adams | Hal Leonard Brant Adams Brant Adams (b, 1944) holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Capital University (Columbus, Ohio), Master of Music degree in theory from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in music theory from the University of Texas at Austin. Brant is a composer, arranger and orchestrator, whose compositions have been performed and recorded around the world by orchestras and choral ensembles in England, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, the former Czech Republic, the Middle East, and across the United States. His work appears in several catalogs, including Shawnee Press, and since 2001, he has conducted and produced orchestral recordings for Shawnee Press. His music has been performed at regional and national meetings of numerous professional music organizations. Brant has been a member of the Oklahoma State University music faculty since 1987, serving as area coordinator of music theory and composition and as head of the Department of Music since 2008. Brant has served on the staff of First Baptist Church-Stillwater as music associate and pianist, interim music director (1996-2002), and Director of Music since 2006. Michael Cox | Hal Leonard Michael Cox Michael Cox is Composer-in-Residence at Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas. In 2009 he retired as Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's School of Church Music. Prior to joining the faculty at Southwestern in the fall of 1990, Dr. Cox taught conducting, composition, and music theory at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Dr. Cox received a Bachelor of Music degree with honors in piano performance from Oklahoma Baptist University, the Master of Music in orchestral conducting from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the Doctor of Music in composition from Florida State University in Tallahassee. As a composer, Dr. Cox has more than 160 published works and has received the Standard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) every year since 1987. He receives numerous commissions and requests for his music, and was honored as the commissioned composer for the Texas Music Teachers Association Conference in May of 1995. In addition to his work as a composer, he has an extensive background in choral and orchestral conducting. He served as director of the Bison Glee Club at Oklahoma Baptist University for 13 years, and was the conductor for the annual Concerto Aria competition featuring OBU students performing with members of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Cox has traveled extensively conducting choral clinics across the country. Since moving to Fort Worth, Dr. Cox has been guest conductor for the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra and the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving. Patsy Ford Simms | Hal Leonard Patsy Ford Simms Patsy Ford Simms was first published in 1981 and has written over 300 songs for the educational and church markets with several leading publishing companies, including Shawnee Press. She began writing and arranging out of necessity due to the lack of choral octavos for the junior high/middle school voice during the first decade of her teaching career. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Knoxville College, a Master of Education from the University of Louisville and a doctorate in Music Education from Columbia Pacific University. Patsy has retired from teaching full time having taught 30 years in grades K-12 and at the Youth Performing Arts School. She is internationally recognized as an arranger, composer and clinician and has been a presenter in Italy and Africa. Several commissioned works have been composed by Patsy as well as short musicals about African American History. Jim Ailor | Hal Leonard Jim Ailor Jim Ailor earned a Bachelor of Music from Samford University, a Master of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Musical Arts from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His dissertation, "A Korean Requiem" (in honor of those who have died while in separation from family during the division of the Korean peninsula), was performed in Seoul, Korea on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. Jim joined the staff of First Baptist Sweetwater, FL in January 2005 as minister of music and worship. Before coming to Sweetwater, he and his wife Diane served in South Korea for 21 years representing Southern Baptists at the Korea Baptist Church Development Board in Seoul. He has published numerous choral works with various publishers, including Shawnee Press, and has been commissioned to write numerous works. Jim has taught as an adjunct instructor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Korean Baptist Theological Seminary and Sudo Baptist Theological Seminary and has been a guest speaker for the SBC Music Conference. Norm Sands | Hal Leonard Norm Sands Norm Sands began composing motivating music for his beginning recorder students in 1989. Since then, he has gained national attention as a composer of educational music through his compositions for Wide World Music, a division of Shawnee Press, Music K-8 magazine (Plank Road Publishing), and SandSoundS, Norm's own publishing venture, which is now a part of Shawnee Press. Upon receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Penn State University in 1985, Norm worked in the Bellefonte Area School District in Pennsylvania as an elementary music specialist. He received several awards during his 11 years as an elementary general music/choral teacher including Outstanding Contributor to Education '89, Outstanding Young Educator '90-'91, and a Citation of Excellence from the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association in 1992. Norm developed curriculum and taught in the REAL (Reinventing Education for Active Learning) Initiative in Bellefonte from 1993 to 1995.From 1995-1998, Norm was an elementary music specialist in Deep South Texas where he was nominated Teacher of the Year in two different school districts. Luigi Zaninelli | Hal Leonard Luigi Zaninelli The music of Luigi Zaninelli (b. 1932) is known to performers and audiences around the world for work that excites the senses and stimulates the mind. Following high school, he was brought to the Curtis Institute of Music by Gian-Carlo Menotti. At age 19, he was sent to Italy by the Curtis Institute to study composition with the legendary Rosario Scalero (the teacher of Samuel Barber and Menotti). Upon graduation, he was appointed to the faculty of the Curtis Institute. In 1958, Zaninelli began his long relationship with Shawnee Press as composer/arranger/pianist/conductor. In 1964, he returned to Rome, Italy to compose film music for RCA Italiana. During that period, he became conductor/arranger for Metropolitan Opera soprano Anna Moffo. During his career, he has served as composer-in-residence at the University of Calgary and the Banff School of Fine Arts. Since 1973, he has been the composer-in-residence at the University of Southern Mississippi. Among his numerous honors are a Steinway Prize; ASCAP Awards; and Outstanding Achievement Award, Province of Alberta. In 1991, he became the first four-time winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Music Award. With more than 300 published works to his credit, Zaninelli has been commissioned to compose for all mediums including opera, ballet, chamber music, orchestra, band, chorus and solo songs. He has also composed several movie and television scores, including the PBS documentaries: The Islander, Passover, and The Last Confederates. Luigi Zaninelli's music is known both under his name and his pseudonym, Lou Hayward. Writing as Lou Hayward, he brings a unique, sophisticated style to popular music. Gene Grier | Hal Leonard Gene Grier Gene Grier (August 5, 1942 - May 3, 2009) wrote music and lyrics on a regular basis for Shawnee Press in collaboration with Greg Gilpin, Ruth Elaine Schram, Patrick Liebergen, David Lantz III, Lowell Everson and several other Shawnee Press composers. Gene is a former public school teacher and university professor and was actively involved in church music as a soloist and director all of his life. He was a soloist with The Norman Luboff Choir, Executive Vice President, General Manager of J.W. Pepper in Detroit, and was an Executive Editor for The Lorenz Corporation. He was also the Director of The Vocal Arts Academy, which was in residence at Oakland University, Rochester, MI for 25 years.
