Craig Courtney | Hal Leonard Craig Courtney A native of Indiana, Craig Courtney began playing the piano at the age of three and the cello at the age of eleven. He received a Bachelors and a Masters in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati, studying piano under Raymond Dudley and chamber music under Walter Levin of the LaSalle Quartet. Following a three-year stay in Milan, Italy, where Mr. Courtney studied the piano with Illonka Deckers, performed for the Associazione Musicale "Gustav Mahler," and worked extensively as a vocal coach, he was invited to join the music faculty of the famed Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, serving as piano teacher and accompanist for the woodwind and brass department. It was during this six-year period, while serving in the music ministry of the Salzburg International Baptist Church, that Mr. Courtney began directing a church choir and composing sacred choral music, due to the unavailability of English language music. In 1985, his compositions came to the attention of John Ness Beck, through the publication of his octavo, Thy Will Be Done, initiating a close working relationship between the two men which continued until Mr. Beck's death in 1987. Mr. Courtney combines his training and background as a pianist, a cellist, a vocal coach, an accompanist and a choral director to create works that bear his unique style. Susan Boersma | Hal Leonard Susan Boersma Susan Bentall Boersma was born and educated in Michigan and began her study of music with her parents, both of whom were performing artists. Her piano/organ/voice studies continued while attending Hope College. She has served as accompanist for college choirs and touring groups as well as for various solo artists and community choirs. She has led workshops on music and worship and has held positions as pianist, choral director and director of music ministries at churches in Michigan, Wisconsin, Vermont and Ohio. Susan is a published lyricist and writes with Craig Courtney, David Lantz III, Lloyd Larson and Mark Hayes on both sacred and school repertoire. Susan lives in Holland, Michigan with her husband, Dr. James A. Boersma. Publications by Susan Boersma

Pamela Stewart | Hal Leonard Pamela Stewart Pamela Stewart (b. 1953) has more than 150 pieces in publication with Shawnee Press and other major publishers. Several of her pieces have been honored by Creator Magazine in its ""Select 20"" anthems. In 2000, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation commissioned her to write a song cycle for chorus and symphony. Entitled “Sing for the Cure,"" it has been performed at Carnegie Hall and has been recorded featuring Dr. Maya Angelou as narrator. Ms. Stewart has collaborated with such well-known composers as Craig Courtney, Patti Drennan, Mark Hayes and Lloyd Larson. As a frequent speaker, she shares her experience with the art of lyric writing and the creative use of language in the traditional liturgical church. Publications by Pamela Stewart

Hal Leonard Vocal Competition - 2012 Winners | Hal Leonard THE 2012 HAL LEONARD VOCAL COMPETITION WINNERS Hal Leonard, the world's largest print music publisher and the world leader in vocal music, launched the exciting and innovative concept of a serious music competition for voice students comprised entirely of YouTube video entries. We believe this to be the first legitimate music competition for musicians of various ages, children through college, to be held entirely on the Internet. The required repertoire was drawn from art song and musical theatre literature. The deadline for entry was February 1, 2012. Judging has been concluded, and we are pleased to announce the art song and musical theatre results in the four age categories of competition. Congratulations to the prize winners! We were encouraged by the commitment and seriousness of purpose shown in the video entries. If these are a representative sampling, there are clearly many dedicated students and teachers at all levels who have embraced our heritage of music literature. We thank all those who entered for confirming that this experimental venture was more than worthwhile. And we also thank the teachers and parents who guided the voice students in this competition.
