Lois Brownsey | Hal Leonard Lois Brownsey Lois Brownsey (Heckman) grew up in Philadelphia, where she attended Temple University, studied at the Guitar Workshop and was active in musical theatre. She has many popular choral works published with Shawnee Press with her writing partner of many years, Marti Lunn Lantz. Together they specialize in multi-cultural music and seasonal compositions. Lois has also written and sung jingles for clients such as AT&T, GMC Truck Dealers and Optical Data Corporation. Lois was active playing in clubs and concerts from 1973 until retiring from live performance in 1997. She has sung, played bass, written and performed in pop, rock and blues bands in the USA and abroad. She presently lives in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, where she is a Celebrant, and active in the political and arts community. Susan Dengler | Hal Leonard Susan Dengler Susan Dengler received a Bachelor of Music degree from West Chester University and Master of Music degree from Valaparaiso University. Susan has co-written a number of chorals with her husband, composer Lee Dengler, and has several arrangements and original compositions in the WorshipSongs Jr. series at Shawnee Press. Susan and her husband, Lee, live in Goshen, Indiana where they are Ministers of Music and Arts at College Mennonite Church. Together they oversee a fully graduated vocal and handbell choir program. Also, Susan is a private voice teacher at Fairfield Junior-Senior High School in Goshen. Debi Witt Jones | Hal Leonard Debi Witt Jones Debi Witt Jones was born in Zanesville, Ohio and moved to Austin, Texas at the age of 5. Austin has remained her home since then. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and started her own business, Austintatious Advertising, in 1983. Debi began playing the guitar at age 13 and began writing songs at age 14. She has been involved in several church praise bands for over 13 years and found that to be a good outlet for her songs. In 2000 Debi married Phil Jones and together they have Sunrise Ministries, Inc. which features the songwriting of both Debi and Phil as well as their beautiful voices. Sunrise Ministries has provided music to churches throughout Texas and in Virginia. Debi has recorded 4 albums, 3 of those in collaboration with Phil, featuring their original music. Nancy Price | Hal Leonard Nancy Price Nancy Price holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in music education from Ithaca College and, for several years, was a high school choral director. She is actively involved in the music program at Perinton Presbyterian Church in Fairport, New York and frequently performs as a soloist and guest conductor. Nancy has been writing with her former teacher, Don Besig, since 1980 and together they have collaborated on more than 300 compositions for school and church choirs. She is a member of MENC, NYSSMA, Sigma Alpha Iota, and ASCAP and is the recipient of several ASCAP special awards. Nancy brings her years of teaching and conducting experience to her sessions and is being increasingly sought after as a clinician. Publications by Nancy Price

Jeff Reeves | Hal Leonard Jeff Reeves Jeff Reeves serves as Choral Music Editor with Hal Leonard Corporation in Milwaukee. In his role at Hal Leonard, Jeff serves as the primary editor for the Discovery Choral Series and the Shawnee Press sacred choral catalog for children, Worship Songs Junior. Jeff also serves as the Director of Children’s Music Ministries at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa. In this position, Jeff coordinates and directs choral and handbell choirs for children in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. Since 1990, Jeff has specialized in the field of church music for children. His work in both the music publishing industry and the local church has given him the unique opportunity to understand the needs of children’s choirs within the larger ecumenical community. He is the author of numerous publications including children’s music curriculum materials, teaching articles, as well as choral and handbell works for children of all ages. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and a Master of Church Music degree from Southern Theological Seminary. He lives in Brookfield with his husband, John, who is Minister of Music & Organist at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Wauwatosa. Together, Jeff and John enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing with their delightful dog, Dolly, and traveling to warm weather destinations. Publications by Jeff Reeves

Mona Rejino | Hal Leonard Mona Rejino An accomplished pianist and teacher, Mona Rejino is co-author and contributing composer and arranger for the Hal Leonard Student Piano Library. Ms. Rejino maintains an independent piano studio in Carrollton, Texas, where she has taught students of all ages and levels since 1983, as well as teaching privately at the Hockaday School in Dallas. She frequently adjudicates festivals and competitions throughout the Dallas area. Mona is a member of Who's Who of American Women. Other professional achievements include two recordings, Music for the Adult Student and Pupil Savers, produced and distributed by the National Piano Foundation. Her compositions have been featured in Keys magazine. Ms. Rejino received her Bachelor's Degree in Music at West Texas State University, and completed her Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of North Texas under pianist Joseph Banowetz. She and her husband, Richard, frequently work together presenting programs on a variety of topics for music teacher associations throughout the Dallas area and at state and national conventions. Carolyn C. Setliff | Hal Leonard Carolyn C. Setliff Carolyn C. Setliff holds dual degrees in music (emphasis in composition) and business (cum laude) from the University of Arkansas and Centenary College, respectively. She has over 70 publications in print with Willis Music in a variety of levels and styles; her pieces are consistently listed in the Federation Festivals Bulletin (NFMC). Carolyn has maintained a successful teaching studio in Little Rock for almost 40 years. She is constantly inspired and challenged by her students, and considers it a privilege to see so many grow up to become successful adults with a lifelong love of music. An active member of the local, state, and national music teacher associations, Carolyn is also a frequent adjudicator at piano festivals and composition competitions. Carolyn grew up in a musical home, beginning piano lessons at the age of five. She and her twin sister grew up singing and playing piano recitals together. Their mother was a church organist and piano teacher, and both parents were incredibly supportive of their musical talents. Today, the musical circle continues: Carolyn’s daughter Cathy also teaches piano, and granddaughter Elizabeth and grandson Andrew are aspiring pianists. Publications by Carolyn C. Setliff

2023 Voices of Distinction > SAM-Klang Choral Series The name SAM-Klang takes the three voice parts from the arrangements – Soprano, Alto and Men – and combines it with the Scandinavian and German words for “sound” to create the portmanteau word “sound together” or “harmony.” The series offers basic and advanced choral repertoire. In addition to new repertoire and new arrangements, you will also find essential parts of the classical German, Scandinavian, French and English SATB repertoire, carefully and considerately reworked for SAM. The arrangements retain the characteristic features of the original movements and have almost the same richness of timbre, resulting in works which sound nearly unchanged to an audience. Piano reductions of all choral movements facilitate rehearsal preparation. Andrew Thomas | Hal Leonard Andrew Thomas Andrew William Thomas, (born: 1939 in upstate, NY). He studied with Karel Husa at Cornell University, with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, and earned his M.M. and D.M.A. Degrees in Composition at The Juilliard School. At Juilliard, he studied with Luciano Berio, Elliot Carter, and Otto Luening. He taught and was the chairman of the Composition Department at the Pre-College Division at Juilliard from 1969 to 1994. In 1994, The Juilliard School appointed him the Director of the Pre-College Division. In addition to composing, Dr. Thomas performs as a pianist, conductor, and is a guest teacher throughout the world. His many awards include a grant from The National Endowment for the Arts and a Distinguished Teacher Citation from The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. Many soloists, chamber organizations, and orchestras have recorded Dr. Thomas's music in the United States and abroad. Although he has taught throughout the world, since 2000, Andrew Thomas has become a regular guest of the People's Republic of China. Under the auspices of the Chinese Government, Dr. Thomas performed his composition for solo piano in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. He was the head western judge of a panel of pianists from all over the world judging the 2000 Chinese Works Piano Competition. In December 2001, Dr. Thomas went to Nanning, China to conduct, to perform as a pianist, and to teach master classes in composition. Dr. Thomas is now an Advisor of the Guangxi Arts College and a guest conductor of the Guangxi Arts College Youth Orchestra. He has returned yearly for further conducting and solo performances. He was honored as the main Western speaker at a conference of middle school administrators and government officials from all parts of China. In an effort to upgrade music education throughout China, Dr. Thomas developed a program which brought together music academies in an effort to advance all the students' technical and artistic abilities in Western as well as Asian music. He has begun a music library, now the largest in South China, in Nanning at the Guangxi Arts College. In April 2004 he conducted the Shanghai Conservatory Youth Orchestra and the Nanning Symphony in a three concerto evening with student soloists from Shanghai, Nanning and, Juilliard. Dr. Thomas lectured, taught, and performed in Korea at a music festival that he co- directed. This festival, The Seoul Music Festival + Academy brings together Western and Korean teachers to perform and to teach advanced string and piano students. On October 9, 2004 Dr. Andrew Thomas gave a piano recital in the Juilliard Theater at the Juilliard School celebrating his 65th birthday, 35 years teaching at the Juilliard School and ten years as its Pre-College director. After twelve years, he stepped down from his administrative position in 2006 to concentrate on his composition works, to teach his gifted students, and hopefully to foster the musical talents of young international ""Citizens of the World."" At his farewell party Juilliard bestowed upon him the title of Director Emeritus. Publications by Andrew Thomas

Rene Clausen | Hal Leonard Rene Clausen René Clausen has served as conductor of The Concordia Choir of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., since 1986. Additionally, he is the artistic director of the award-winning Concordia Christmas Concerts, which are frequently featured by PBS stations throughout the nation. Clausen is a well-known composer whose choral compositions are currently published by Roger Dean, Augsburg Fortress, Santa Barbara, Walton, Hal Leonard, Mark Foster and Shawnee Press. His compositional style is varied and eclectic, ranging from works appropriate for high school and church choirs to more technically demanding compositions for college and professional choirs. Interested in composing for various media, Clausen’s compositional interests include works for the stage, solo voice, film and video composition, choral/orchestral compositions and arrangements, as well as works for orchestra and wind ensemble. He regularly composes on a commission basis, and is a frequent guest conductor and composer-in-residence on an international basis. In addition to choral conducting, Clausen is increasingly well known as a guest conductor of the major literature for choir and orchestra. At Carnegie Hall he has guest conducted the Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, Mozart Requiem and Mass in C Minor, together with the New York premiere of three of his own works, Gloria (in three movements), Whispers of Heavenly Death, with text by Walt Whitman, and Communion, with text by George Macdonald. Other major choral/orchestral works he has conducted include the Poulenc Gloria, Vaughan Williams Hodie, Beethoven Mass in C Major and Choral Fantasy, and Fauré Requiem. Other recent works include The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and Celebration Canticles. In the summer of 1998, Clausen established the René Clausen Choral School held on the campus of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. Much more than a reading workshop, the choral school is an intensive, five-day program for choral conductors focusing on conducting and rehearsal technique, performance practice issues, elements of choral ensemble, tonal development, as well as daily reading sessions of new music. Lee Dengler | Hal Leonard Lee Dengler Lee Dengler received a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from West Chester University School of Music in West Chester, PA. He studied choral composition and arranging with Alice Parker at Westminster Choir College as well as in her home in New England where he participated in the Melodious Accord Fellowship program. Lee and his wife, Susan, live in Goshen, Indiana where they are Ministers of Music and Arts at College Mennonite Church. Together they oversee a fully graduated vocal and handbell choir program. Lee directs the 60-voice adult choir. Also, he is a freelance editor and engraver for several major sacred music publishers in the United States. Lee is a bass/baritone soloist and has sung in recitals in many churches and in numerous oratorio and operatic productions. He directs the Goshen Community Chorale, a 60- to 70-voice organization which performs a wide range of choral repertoire. Composing has always been a passion for Lee, beginning very early in life. Lee grew up in a Mennonite church in eastern Pennsylvania where four-part a cappella congregational hymn singing was the norm. This planted in him a deep love for singing. This love continues to be an influence in his writing today. Lee composes a wide range of choral, vocal and piano works and has over 220 works published by most of the nation's major music publishers. Lee and Susan have two married children and four, very cute, extremely intelligent, highly talented, incredible...grandchildren. Publications by Lee Dengler

Cast a fantastic singer, actor, and dancer who pairs well with the Potts family and can command the stage. Gender: Female Vocal Range: C4-D5 Grandpa Grandpa loves Jeremy, Jemima, and Potts with all his heart. Though his experience in the military drives many of his interactions, underneath all his bluster, the most important thing to Grandpa is his family. Cast a great actor and a good singer who is unafraid to make bold choices onstage. Gender: Male Vocal Range: C3-C4 Miss Phillips Miss Phillips is the no-nonsense assistant to Lord Scrumptious. This is a great feature for someone who can create a strong character but might not be quite ready for a larger role. Miss Phillips does not have a singing solo, so cast a good actor with good stage presence. Gender: Female Lord Scrumptious Lord Scrumptious is the all-powerful owner of the candy factory. Cast a strong, confident performer who is comfortable commanding the stage and pairs well with Truly. This role is non- singing. He or she is ultra hip and enjoys introducing the Aristocats to jazz music. Scat Cat leads the song "Ev'rybody Want to Be a Cat" so cast a strong singer and smooth mover. When auditioning, look for a child that's willing to go over-the-top on both movement and acting improvisations. The more creative and able to perform outside the box, the better. Scat Cat can be played by either a girl or a boy. The Alley Cats The Alley Cats - Hep, Mad, Slick and Wacky although small acting parts, are the glue that holds The Aristocats KIDS together. These storytellers set up and comment on the action as well as execute the scene changes. These roles require actors with strong speaking voices who can focus onstage for long periods of time. They should also have good memories for the more complicated blocking of scene changes and transitions. Casting extra Alley Cats is a great way to use additional children you may have. Depending upon ability, they can take part in all or only some of the production numbers which call for the Alley Cats. Use some strong singers in these roles to help fill out the sound of the chorus.

Hal Leonard is pleased to introduce ChoralMix™, a multi-media tool that will do just that! Using this new technology, directors will now be able to separate choral recordings into the various voice parts AND share those recordings with their entire choir!

Furthermore, all vocal tracks (and accompaniment audio) are seamlessly stitched together to automatically follow Hal Leonard engraved choral scores. ChoralMix aims to create effortless advancements in class time management, sectional rehearsals, at-home study, and overall director convenience!

ChoralMix provides directors with access to real-time, interactive part-predominant digital audio recordings that they can share with their choir members via an online, streaming library. The choral score is clearly displayed one system at a time and is fully automated to follow the printed notation. The browser-based application requires internet access and can be accessed from any type of device: computers, smartphones, or tablets.

Directors simply must purchase the ChoralMix item for a song and share the unique access code with their choir members who can then log into the Hal Leonard MyLibrary portal and practice their parts. Teachers can decide if they want their students to share a single username for easy access, or if they prefer to set up unique usernames so that the director can track the number of times an individual has accessed ChoralMix.
