Paris Rutherford | Hal Leonard Paris Rutherford Paris Rutherford is considered one of the top vocal jazz arrangers in the country today. His arrangements focus carefully on singability in the lyric and voice leading, and are crafted to bring an unusual touch to the music. Mr. Rutherford is Professor in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, where he directs the award-winning UNT Jazz Singers and teaches courses in jazz arranging, song writing, and broadcast music. He also heads the degree program in vocal jazz. Under Rutherford's direction, the Jazz Singers have performed for the International Association for Jazz Education, Music Educators National Conference, American Choral Directors Association, and many jazz festivals around the country, as well as for the summer vocal jazz workshop, held annually on the UNT campus. Their recordings are heard on six CDs. Paris Rutherford brings a wealth of experience to his vocal jazz writing. A former member of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Dallas Summer Musicals (trombone), and long experience as performer, composer and producer in the recording studios of Dallas, Los Angeles, London, England, and Cologne, Germany, his arrangements reflect the diversity of those varied activities. He is in demand as a clinician in vocal jazz, both as a director and as a writer. Stephen Zegree | Hal Leonard Stephen Zegree Stephen Zegree (1953-2015) was the Bobby McFerrin Professor of Music at Western Michigan University where he taught classical and jazz piano; directed the Gold Company, an internationally recognized jazz vocal ensemble; and performed as pianist with the Western Jazz Quartet, the resident faculty jazz ensemble in the School of Music. The winner of numerous competitions, awards, and honors Dr. Zegree appeared as pianist, conductor, clinician, and adjudicator on five continents. He was a Steinway Artist. Gold Company, his vocal jazz ensemble, won over 45 awards from Down Beat magazine, more than any other college or university, and toured throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and performed at the MENC National Convention, numerous IAJE Conventions, World Symposium on Choral Music, and with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Janis Siegel, Jon Hendricks, Darmon Meader, Mark Murphy, Don Shelton, and Bonnie Herman. Dr. Zegree was a cum laude graduate of Miami University, where he earned the Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. He earned the Master of Music degree ""With Highest Distinction"" at Indiana University in piano and jazz, and completed doctoral studies in conducting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, which included tenure as conducting assistant to Dr. Eph Ehly. Dr. Zegree's choral arrangements are published by Hal Leonard Music Publications, Shawnee Press, and others. He authored the book The Wow Factor: How to Create It, Inspire It and Achieve It, published by Hal Leonard. He also co-produced jazz vocalist Mark Murphy's Nat King Cole Songbook, which was nominated for a Grammy® Award. A renowned educator, his students are among today's leaders in jazz and pop performance, Broadway, recording studio production, writing, arranging, singing, and music education.

Roger Emerson | Hal Leonard Roger Emerson With over 900 titles in print and 30 million copies in circulation, Roger Emerson is one of the most widely performed choral composers in America today. He received his degree in Music Education from Southern Oregon University and served as music specialist for 12 years in the Mt. Shasta Public School system. He concluded his teaching career at the College of the Siskiyous, also in Northern California, and now devotes full time to composing, arranging and consulting. He is the most widely performed composer/arranger of popular choral music and vocal jazz in the world today. His works include the choral arrangements of Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up, Season's of Love, from RENT, Defying Gravity from WICKED, Joyful, Joyful from SISTER ACT, Don't Stop Believin' from GLEE, and most recently, My Shot from HAMILTON. In addition, his vocal jazz arrangements of Over The Rainbow, Vincent, Blue Skies, and I Wish are some of the most performed of all-time. Mr. Emerson has been the recipient of ASCAP's Standard Award for 30 years running and his works have been performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
