Thomas May
Thomas May (b. 1976) began his appreciation for music with piano lessons at age six. Mr. May went on to study piano with a myriad of inspirational teachers and graduated summa cum laude from UW-Whitewater in 2000, where he received his undergraduate degree in Instrumental Music Education. Mr. May also received a Master of Instrumental Music Education degree at VanderCook College of Music in 2004.
Mr. May started his career by teaching middle school band and general music at Nikolay Middle School in Cambridge, Wisconsin. Soon after, Mr. May became the 4th and 5th grade orchestra and band director in the Delavan-Darien School District. During that time, Mr. May took an interest in composing and arranging music that meets the unique needs of students at this early level of musicianship. Mr. May currently teaches orchestra and band at Marshall Middle School in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin. Mr. May continues to enjoy creating music for his students and finds the work of helping young people through the many challenges of playing an instrument to be very rewarding.
Mr. May is a member of ASCAP and is an adjudicator and accompanist for various music festivals. Mr. May also remains active as a pianist and instrumental musician in his church.
In addition to a variety of outdoor activities, Mr. May especially enjoys spending time with his wife Jessica who is an elementary music teacher, and their four children. He is thankful to share in their many interests.
