  Cheryl Lavender  

Cheryl Lavender is internationally recognized as a master music educator, composer, author and clinician. Having taught music for 37 years at the elementary, middle, high and university levels, Cheryl maintains an active writing and speaking schedule through Hal Leonard Corporation.

Cheryl's 50+ resources for music educators include music games, song collections and teaching strategies. Some of her most widely used titles include World Partners, Making Each Minute Count (proceeds benefit the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), The Ultimate Music Assessment and Evaluation Kit, Songs of the Rainbow Children (proceeds benefit South African and American schools), Rhythm and Melody Flash Card Kits and her popular Bingo series, including Instrument Bingo, Rhythm Bingo, Music Symbol Bingo and Music Styles Bingo.

Cheryl is also a contributing composer/author for the MacMillan/McGraw-Hill music textbook series Spotlight On Music, as well as John Jacobson's Music Express magazine.

In 2005, Cheryl received both the Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Music Educators Association, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Central Michigan University. In 2004, she was one of 12 recipients nationwide to be awarded the Arts@Work $5000 grant from the NEA Foundation, which funded the school's piano lab. In 1996, she traveled to South Africa to represent the United States as a music educator for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Citizen Ambassador Program. In 1993, Cheryl received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Elmbrook School District.

Cheryl's enthusiasm for teaching music, coupled with her love for children, make her one of the most sought-after clinicians in music education.

Cheryl's academic background includes a music education degree from Central Michigan University and graduate work from Michigan State University, the University of Wisconsin and VanderCook College of Music. Cheryl and her husband, Paul, reside in Brookfield, WI. They are the parents of three children.
