Following a performance of his “Ceremony of Carols”, Benjamin Britten was moved to write this Missa Brevis for the boys of Westminister Cathedral Choir and their director George Malcolm. In order to have it completed before Mr. Malcolm retired, Britten created this short form Missa Brevis which he affectionately called his “mass in short trousers”.
