Pacific Visions was composed at the request of Marcy A. Sudock, music director and conductor of Musique Sur La Mer Orchestras, in Long Beach, California. Maestro Sudock requested a composition, titled Pacific Visions, that would serve as a bright and energetic opening work to a concert of premières, including pieces by Eric Whitacre and Richard Danielpour. The title of the work refers to the name of the new wing of the Aquarium of the Pacific—“Pacific Visions”—which provides a unique and powerful educational platform for communicating the challenges and opportunities of creating a sustainable future for our World's Ocean. Pacific Visions is cast in the form of a continuously evolving single movement, whose musical ideas are stated at the outset. The goal is to express through musical sound and gesture the optimistic energy and vision of the Aquarium of the Pacific.
