The 10-minute piece was written in 2006 for the Berlin Philharmonic's education/dance project “Modern Times”, three years after the orchestra had caused a sensation with “Rhythm Is It!”. Purple Silence comprises several dance-like sections with a varying characterof movement, framed by a melancholy, calm general theme, and demands flexibility, tonal feeling and even virtuosity of the classicalinstrumentation of the horn quartet.
