Jane Trotter | Hal Leonard Jane Trotter Jane Trotter graduated from Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand, with a B.A. in English, a bachelor's degree in piano performance and a post-graduate diploma. In 1991 she completed her LTCL performer's diploma, and in 1996 was awarded a Royal School of Music Centenary Travel Grant Scholarship, with which she traveled to London and studied at the Royal College of Music, where she gained her LRSM teaching diploma. Jane has extensive experience as a private piano teacher in her studio and in local schools and has instructed students of various ages. Keenly involved in Dunedin's music environment, Jane has adjudicated local competitions, teaches beginning recorder and clarinet with the Sunday Morning Music Classes and is an active member of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand. Anne McGinty | Hal Leonard Anne McGinty Anne McGinty is known throughout the world as a prolific woman composer in the field of concert band literature, having written more than 225 pieces, with more than 50 of those commissioned by bands across the United States. Thousands of people have played her music and discovered the joy and beauty of playing music that is both educational (helping instrumentalists learn basic musical skills) and also musical, engaging their imagination and encouraging them to stay in the instrumental music program. In addition to concert band, she has written for solo flute with band, solo clarinet with band, brass band, string orchestra, solo flute, flute with piano accompaniment, and music for flute duet, trio, quartet and choir. All of her compositions and arrangements have been published. She received her Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude, and Master of Music from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she concentrated on flute performance, music theory and composition. She studied flute and chamber music with Bernard Goldberg and composition with Joseph Willcox Jenkins. Anne is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and has received annual composition awards since 1986. She received the Golden Rose Award from the Women Band Directors National Association and the Outstanding Service to Music Award from Tau Beta Sigma, a national honorary band sorority. Shelley Hanson | Hal Leonard Shelley Hanson Shelley Hanson is a composer, clarinetist, conductor and producer whose music has been performed on all continents except Antarctica. Principal Clarinetist of the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, she has performed as a soloist with many ensembles, including the Minnesota Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Las Vegas Philharmonic, and the U.S. Air Force Band, among others. Her klezmer band, Klezmer & All That Jazz, recorded traditional music as well as her own originals for the Audie Award-winning NPR production of the classic Yiddish play The Dybbuk. Currently Director of the Wind Ensemble at Macalester College, she has conducted wind ensembles and orchestras as a faculty member of various colleges and universities, and is a frequent clinician and guest conductor for high school, university, and community groups. A graduate of Duke University, she received the M.M., Woodwind Specialist, and the Ph.D. in performance, music literature, and music theory from Michigan State University. Mike Tomaro | Hal Leonard Mike Tomaro Mike Tomaro is the Director of Jazz Studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. This saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, arranger and educator earned his B.S. degree in Music Education from Duquesne University and his M.A. degree in Saxophone Performance from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Mike is a Yamaha Performing Artist and former member of the Army Blues jazz ensemble. While a member of this group, he served as its Enlisted Musical Director and performed for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton, as well as heads of state from around the world. He also composed and/or arranged much of the Army Blues repertoire, and was featured as a soloist on several of the group's albums and CDs. Mike has four nationally released recordings under his own name that showcase his talents as both performer and writer: Nightowl Suite, Forgotten Dreams, Dancing Eyes (all on Seabreeze Jazz), and Home Again (Positive Music). His latest CD, Nightowl Suite, is Mike's first release under his own name in nine years and features his compositions and arrangements as performed by the Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra, a group that he co-founded. Music that Mike has composed or arranged has been performed by the likes of jazz greats Nancy Wilson, Claudio Roditi, New York Voices, Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Ernie Watts, Bobby Shew, Al Vizzutti and many others, as well as high school, college, university and professional bands around the world. More than 80 of his compositions and arrangements are published by Doug Beach Music, Hal Leonard Corporation and Walrus Music. As a performer, Mike has worked with such diverse artists and groups as Nancy Wilson (most recently on her Grammy award winning CD RSVP on the MCG Jazz label), Rosemary Clooney, Ray Charles, Michael Feinstein, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Mathis, Terence Blanchard, Dizzy Gillespie Tribute Big Band, New York Voices and the Woody Herman Orchestra. In his hometown, he has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburgh Ballet and Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, in addition to leading his own small groups. He is a long-time associate of the International Association for Jazz Education, where he is a member of its prestigious resource team in the area of arranging and composition. He is also affiliated with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers where he has received an ASCAP Plus award for the past four years, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Pittsburgh Jazz Society, where he is a member of its board of directors.
