Rosemary Barrrett Byers | Hal Leonard Rosemary Barrrett Byers Rosemary Barrett Byers has enjoyed a varied career as pianist, conductor, theatrical director, teacher, composer, and arranger. Since completing a Master of Music degree in piano performance at Indiana University, she has taught children and adults of all ages and levels in a home studio and at various colleges and universities throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Several of her original children's musicals such as Billy's Angel's Box, Miracle at Maple Hollow, CinderElf, and The Weally Weird Wabbitt have been produced by show choirs and theater companies in Tennessee and Kentucky. Rosemary Hughey | Hal Leonard Rosemary Hughey Rosemary Hughey is currently active as a teacher of piano and theory in her music studio in Carrollton, Texas. Her studio consists of over 70 students, ages 5 through adult. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ms. Hughey is married and the mother of 4 grown children. She has lived in the Dallas area since 1980. Her educational background includes studies at the University of North Texas with a master's degree in music education, focus on piano. Her training includes studies at the University of Houston and the University of Dallas in Kindermusik, and Kodaly training at the University of North Texas. She has been a church pianist, organist, and children's choir director in Dallas and she has also taught music in grades K through 6 in a private school. Publications by Rosemary Hughey

Rosephanye Powell | Hal Leonard Rosephanye Powell Dr. Rosephanye Powell serves as Associate Professor of Voice at Auburn University (Auburn, Alabama). Prior to her appointment at Auburn University, Dr. Powell served as an Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the music department at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Powell began her tenure at Philander Smith College in 1993, after receiving the Doctor of Music in vocal performance at The Florida State University. She earned the Master of Music degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from Westminster Choir College and the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Alabama State University. Prior to her service at Philander Smith College, Dr. Powell served as Assistant Professor of Music at Georgia Southern University from 1987 to 1990.

In addition, Paul has served as music supervisor and arranger for several of Williams’ concerts and special events, including the 2003 and 2008 Marine Band Anniversary Concerts, the 2004 Rose Bowl, and the 2004 Kennedy Center Honors program (televised on CBS). Also a prolific writer, Paul has contributed more than 1,200 arrangements and compositions to the educational and concert repertoire, and he continues to be one of the most widely played writers today. Most recently, he has received international acclaim with two notable transcriptions for symphonic band: Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky and Maurice Ravel. Both works were written for and recorded by the world-renowned United States Marine Band, and performed on national tours under the direction of Colonel Michael J. Colburn. Paul is also co-author and managing editor of Essential Elements, the leading method for beginning bands and orchestras. Under his direction, Hal Leonard recently released Essential Elements Interactive, the first-ever, cloud-based resource that features online learning for school band and orchestra programs. His expertise in music notation and preparation, recording production, and computer system design contributes to Hal Leonard's continuing success as the leading print and digital music publisher, recognized throughout the world. In 2005, Paul received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Central Michigan University, where he did both his undergraduate and graduate work in Music Theory and Composition. Anne McGinty | Hal Leonard Anne McGinty Anne McGinty is known throughout the world as a prolific woman composer in the field of concert band literature, having written more than 225 pieces, with more than 50 of those commissioned by bands across the United States. Thousands of people have played her music and discovered the joy and beauty of playing music that is both educational (helping instrumentalists learn basic musical skills) and also musical, engaging their imagination and encouraging them to stay in the instrumental music program. In addition to concert band, she has written for solo flute with band, solo clarinet with band, brass band, string orchestra, solo flute, flute with piano accompaniment, and music for flute duet, trio, quartet and choir. All of her compositions and arrangements have been published. She received her Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude, and Master of Music from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she concentrated on flute performance, music theory and composition. She studied flute and chamber music with Bernard Goldberg and composition with Joseph Willcox Jenkins. Anne is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and has received annual composition awards since 1986. She received the Golden Rose Award from the Women Band Directors National Association and the Outstanding Service to Music Award from Tau Beta Sigma, a national honorary band sorority. Richard Saucedo | Hal Leonard Richard Saucedo Richard L. Saucedo retired in 2013 as Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chairman at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana. During his 31-year tenure, Carmel bands received numerous state, regional and national honors in the areas of concert band, jazz and marching band. Under his direction, Carmel's Wind Symphony I performed at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival three times, and was named Indiana State Champion Concert Band most recently in 2013. The group also performed at the 2005 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. Carmel Jazz Ensembles won numerous awards at festivals in Indiana and throughout the Midwest, and the Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds finished in the top ten at the Bands of America Grand National Championship for 17 years under Saucedo and were named National Champions in 2005 and 2012. The Marching Band was the Indiana Class A State Champion four times. He was named Indiana Bandmasters' 1998-99 Bandmaster of the Year, and Indiana Music Educators Association's 2010 Outstanding Music Educator. His accomplishments have been highlighted in articles by HALFTIME and SCHOOL BAND AND ORCHESTRA magazines. He was inducted into the Music for All Hall of Fame in 2015. Mr. Saucedo is a freelance arranger and composer, having released numerous marching band arrangements, choral arrangements, and concert band and orchestral works. He is on the writing staff of Hal Leonard LLC. His compositions have been performed by middle school and high school bands all over the world, as well as by college and university groups. Nocturne, his first work for orchestra, was named most outstanding new composition at the 2009 National Orchestra Cup Festival at Lincoln Center. His most recent orchestra work, Essay #1, was premiered at the 2014 Midwest Clinic. Mr. Saucedo receives numerous commission requests, and will be releasing new works for university, high school and middle school bands throughout 2018-19. He is the author of two DVDs on rehearsing the marching band wind section, and is featured in two DVDs on concert band rehearsal techniques, all available at dynamicmarching.com. Mr. Saucedo travels around the world as an adjudicator, keynote speaker, clinician and guest conductor. He will appear in over 25 states during the 2018-19 school year. In July 2014, he was an adjudicator/clinician for the Singapore International Band Festival, and served as clinician and guest conductor at the Japan Band Clinic in May 2016. In September 2016, he presented at the Australian Band and Orchestra Clinic in Sydney. He was a featured clinician at the 2017 Midwest Clinic and the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association convention. He currently judges for Drum Corps International, and was the brass composer/arranger for the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (Rosemont, IL) from 2000-2008. The Cavaliers won five DCI World Championships during his tenure. He also spent four years as the brass composer/arranger for the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps (La Crosse, WI). He is an educational consultant for Music for All and Bands of America. He is a member of the Conn-Selmer Division of Education, and currently serves as assistant chief judge for Bands of America marching band competitions. He is a former member of the Board of Directors for United Sound, an organization whose mission is to give special needs students a chance to experience the joy of instrumental music performance through peer mentoring. Mr. Saucedo did his undergraduate work at Indiana University in Bloomington, and finished his master's degree at Butler University in Indianapolis. He is an aviation enthusiast and a certified private pilot. He is married to Sarah and is most proud of his two children - his daughter Carmen studied elementary education at Ball State and is now a teacher; his son Ethan is in 5th grade and plays basketball and studies piano and percussion. David Schwoebel | Hal Leonard David Schwoebel David Schwoebel is Minister of Music / Composer in Residence at Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond Virginia. He is a graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, IL and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Voice and Organ Performance, and a Master of Church Music with an emphasis in Composition. Prior to beginning his ministry at Derbyshire in January 1997, he had served churches in his hometown of Belleville, IL, Montgomery AL, and Atlanta, GA. As an ordained minister, David administrates and oversees a comprehensive music ministry of six choral organizations, four handbell choirs, and a 32-piece orchestra. Mike Tomaro | Hal Leonard Mike Tomaro Mike Tomaro is the Director of Jazz Studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. This saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, arranger and educator earned his B.S. degree in Music Education from Duquesne University and his M.A. degree in Saxophone Performance from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Mike is a Yamaha Performing Artist and former member of the Army Blues jazz ensemble. While a member of this group, he served as its Enlisted Musical Director and performed for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton, as well as heads of state from around the world. He also composed and/or arranged much of the Army Blues repertoire, and was featured as a soloist on several of the group's albums and CDs. Mike has four nationally released recordings under his own name that showcase his talents as both performer and writer: Nightowl Suite, Forgotten Dreams, Dancing Eyes (all on Seabreeze Jazz), and Home Again (Positive Music). His latest CD, Nightowl Suite, is Mike's first release under his own name in nine years and features his compositions and arrangements as performed by the Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra, a group that he co-founded. Music that Mike has composed or arranged has been performed by the likes of jazz greats Nancy Wilson, Claudio Roditi, New York Voices, Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Ernie Watts, Bobby Shew, Al Vizzutti and many others, as well as high school, college, university and professional bands around the world. More than 80 of his compositions and arrangements are published by Doug Beach Music, Hal Leonard Corporation and Walrus Music. Hal Leonard Vocal Competition - 2022 Winners | Hal Leonard THE 2022 HAL LEONARD VOCAL COMPETITION WINNERS Hal Leonard, the world's largest print music publisher and the world leader in vocal music, launched the exciting and innovative concept of a serious music competition for voice students comprised entirely of YouTube video entries. We believe this to be the first legitimate music competition for musicians of various ages, children through college, to be held entirely on the Internet. The required repertoire was largely drawn from art song and musical theatre literature. The deadline for entry was February 2, 2022. Judging has been concluded, and we are pleased to announce the art song and musical theatre results in the four age categories of competition. Congratulations to the prize winners! We were encouraged by the commitment and seriousness of purpose shown in the video entries. If these are a representative sampling, there are clearly many dedicated students and teachers at all levels who have embraced our heritage of music literature. We thank all those who entered for confirming that this experimental venture was more than worthwhile. And we also thank the teachers and parents who guided the voice students in this competition. Hal Leonard Vocal Competition - 2015 Winners | Hal Leonard THE 2015 HAL LEONARD VOCAL COMPETITION WINNERS Hal Leonard, the world's largest print music publisher and the world leader in vocal music, launched the exciting and innovative concept of a serious music competition for voice students comprised entirely of YouTube video entries. We believe this to be the first legitimate music competition for musicians of various ages, children through college, to be held entirely on the Internet. The required repertoire was largely drawn from art song and musical theatre literature. The deadline for entry was February 1, 2015. Judging has been concluded, and we are pleased to announce the art song and musical theatre results in the four age categories of competition. Congratulations to the prize winners! We were encouraged by the commitment and seriousness of purpose shown in the video entries. If these are a representative sampling, there are clearly many dedicated students and teachers at all levels who have embraced our heritage of music literature. We thank all those who entered for confirming that this experimental venture was more than worthwhile. And we also thank the teachers and parents who guided the voice students in this competition.
