Doug Andrews | Hal Leonard Doug Andrews Doug Andrews (composer, arranger, clinician) received his B.S. in Music Education from Mansfield (Pa.) University, Masters of Music in composition from Pennsylvania State University and an Ed.S in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida. Doug has worked at South Florida Community College since 1982 when he assumed the position of Instructor of Music. For the next 22 years, he split his time between teaching and administrative duties. In January of 2004, he was named Dean of Cultural Programs. He began writing for the SFCC Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a group he formed in 1995. Jim Ailor | Hal Leonard Jim Ailor Jim Ailor earned a Bachelor of Music from Samford University, a Master of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Musical Arts from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His dissertation, "A Korean Requiem" (in honor of those who have died while in separation from family during the division of the Korean peninsula), was performed in Seoul, Korea on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. Jim joined the staff of First Baptist Sweetwater, FL in January 2005 as minister of music and worship. Before coming to Sweetwater, he and his wife Diane served in South Korea for 21 years representing Southern Baptists at the Korea Baptist Church Development Board in Seoul. He has published numerous choral works with various publishers, including Shawnee Press, and has been commissioned to write numerous works. Jim has taught as an adjunct instructor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Korean Baptist Theological Seminary and Sudo Baptist Theological Seminary and has been a guest speaker for the SBC Music Conference. David Schwoebel | Hal Leonard David Schwoebel David Schwoebel is Minister of Music / Composer in Residence at Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond Virginia. He is a graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, IL and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Voice and Organ Performance, and a Master of Church Music with an emphasis in Composition. Prior to beginning his ministry at Derbyshire in January 1997, he had served churches in his hometown of Belleville, IL, Montgomery AL, and Atlanta, GA. As an ordained minister, David administrates and oversees a comprehensive music ministry of six choral organizations, four handbell choirs, and a 32-piece orchestra. His energetic, hands-on approach to ministry finds him working each week with people of all ages, encouraging and equipping them to discover and develop their varied musical talents and skills. The MICHELLE hymn tune included in the 1991 Baptist Hymnal is named for David’s wife, Michelle. The BRITTANY, ASHLEY and COURTNEY hymn tunes, named for their three daughters, and the ROSE MARY, HENDRICKS AVENUE, as well as an arrangement of IRBY hymn tunes, are included in the Celebrating Grace Hymnal. Johnnie Vinson | Hal Leonard Johnnie Vinson JOHNNIE VINSON is Emeritus Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Auburn University. He received the Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees in Music Education from Auburn, and the Doctor of Arts degree in Music Theory from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Vinson retired from Auburn University in June 2007 after a 36-year career with the Auburn Bands. Prior to joining the Auburn faculty, he taught in the public schools of Columbus, Georgia, and worked as a graduate assistant with the bands at the University of Texas and University of Mississippi. At Auburn, he supervised the overall band program, conducted the symphonic band, and taught conducting and band arranging. He was also faculty sponsor to Auburn's Theta Lambda chapter of Tau Beta Sigma. With well over 400 published works, Dr. Vinson is an internationally recognized arranger/composer of music for band. His publisher is Hal Leonard Corporation (www.halleonard.com), the world leader in the print music industry. He has served as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the United States and Canada. Dr. Vinson has been active professionally as a member and officer in numerous organizations. He is also a former member of the board of directors of the National Band Association, and is a past president of Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity. In January 1998 he was elected to the Alabama Bandmasters Hall of Fame, and in January 2008 was a member of the inaugural class inducted into the Alabama Music Educators Hall of Fame. Brazeal Dennard | Hal Leonard Brazeal Dennard "Brazeal Dennard (January 1, 1929 – July 5, 2010) attended Detroit Public Schools as a youngster and began private music study with such notables as the late Johnnie Reid, Professor S. A. Ratliff, Dean Robert Nolan, Lloyd Murphy, and Virginia Persons. He completed his formal education at Wayne State University, earning a Master’s Degree in Music Education. Throughout his career, Brazeal has served in many roles, such as guest conductor, clinician, lecturer, and church choirmaster. His numerous professional affiliations include National Endowment of the Arts, Department of Cultural Affairs for the city of Detroit, former trustee and member of the Advisory Committee of the Detroit Community Music School, former Chairman of the Music Advisory Committee for the Michigan Council for the Arts, and President of the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. As Fine Arts Department Head at Northwestern High School, Brazeal skillfully prepared the school ensemble and choir to earn superior ratings in state finals competition, appear before the National Convention of the MENC, and perform on an NBC television network special. Brazeal Dennard was the recipient of The Maynard Klein Award in recognition of artistic excellence in the field of choral music, presented by the Michigan Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. He retired as supervisor of music for the Detroit Public Schools and then went on to serve as adjunct faculty at Wayne State University. Brazeal is listed in the 1978 edition of ""Men of Achievement,"" International Biographies, Cambridge, England. He was invited by the White House to become a member of a special committee to present White House Fellowships to highly motivated young Americans. Brazeal's testimony was requested at the field hearings on the re-authorization of the National Foundation for the Arts and Humanities Act, and also that of the Museum Services Act. Brazeal served on the Board of Directors of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Founded in 1972, the Brazeal Dennard Chorale is a group of highly trained singers dedicated to developing the choral art to its highest professional level. The Brazeal Dennard Community Chorus was organized in 1985 as a community outreach program by The Brazeal Dennard Chorale to encourage participation of members of the surrounding communities and to provide them with vocal training and professional performance opportunities. Michael Abene | Hal Leonard Michael Abene Michael Abene is a composer, arranger, keyboard player and record producer. Michael joined the Maynard Ferguson band while still a teenager and was responsible for writing some of the most-requested arrangements, such as "Green Dolphin Street," "Airegin," "Fox Hunt," "Chicago," "Whisper Not," "Knarf" and "Cherokee." Michael produced the Grammy-winning projects "Digital Duke" featuring the Duke Ellington Orchestra and "The GRP All-Star Big Band-All Blues." He produced the Grammy-nominated "GRP All-Star Big Band" and "The GRP All-Star Big Band Live" and received nominations in the arranging category for all three big band records. Other projects he has produced are "The GRP Christmas Collection Volumes 1, 2 and 3" (Volume 1 was awarded a gold record for sales of 500,000 units), "Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown," two projects for Billy Taylor, "... It's a matter of pride" and "Homage," "Maiden Voyage" for Nnenna Freelon plus projects for Billy Cobham, Eddie Daniels and Dave Valentin. Some of the other artists Michael has composed and arranged for are Take 6, Joe Lovano, Bireli Lagrene, Montreal fusion bassist Alain Caron, Dick Oatts, Dave Grusin, for which he received a 1998 Grammy nomination for the arrangement of "America" from "Dave Grusin Presents West Side Story," Chick Corea, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, Liza Minnelli, Charles Aznavour, Dave Taylor, Ronnie Cuber, Diva, the Metropole Jazz Orchestra in the Netherlands and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. Michael has also appeared as featured pianist and arranger/composer with the UMO Jazz Orchestra in Helsinki, WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany, the Rotterdam Conservatory Big Band (The Netherlands), Jazz Big Band Graz (Austria), Kluvers Big Band (Denmark) and the BBC Big Band in England. Michael also has produced and arranged for many singers, from pop and crossover artists Patti Austin and B.B. King, to classic jazz artists Grady Tate, Joe Williams, Chris Connor, New York Voices and Diane Schuur. Two works of Michael's were premiered during the summer of 2000: a piece he arranged for The Metropole Jazz Orchestra for seven trombones where each trombonist contributed an original and Michael composed opening and connecting sections allowing the piece to be played as a suite. This composition was performed at the International Trombone Festival in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The second composition was an original work commissioned by The Mancini Institute, where Michael has appeared as composer-in-residence, for bass trombonist Dave Taylor entitled "Heritage: New/Old and Then Some" and performed by The Mancini Institute Orchestra and Big Band. This work has also been performed by The Manhattan School of Music Studio Jazz Orchestra and in 2004 by The Amsterdam Conservatory Orchestra and Big Band. Two new compositions by Michael premiered in 2003 were "Odyssey for Brass," commissioned and performed by The Metropole Jazz Orchestra in Tilburg, The Netherlands and "Fragmentations" performed by the Slovenian Symphony and Radio Big Band. In the fall of 2003 Michael was appointed Musical Director, Principal Composer/Arranger of the WDR Radio Big Band of Cologne, Germany. Because of the response worldwide, Michael has made his compositions and arrangements available to schools and bands and serves as a clinician, and is currently working on his own 11-piece band consisting of two trumpets, french horn, tenor and bass trombone, three reeds and rhythm section. Michael joined the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in January 1998. In 2001 Michael was instrumental in creating a course entitled "Jazz Composition and Arranging for The Studio Orchestra" and in 2003, a Doctoral in Jazz program. John Williams | Hal Leonard John Williams In a career spanning more than six decades, John Williams has become one of America’s most accomplished and successful composers for film and for the concert stage, and he remains one of our nation’s most distinguished and contributive musical voices. He has composed the music and served as music director for more than one hundred films, including all nine Star Wars films, the first three Harry Potter films, Superman, JFK, Born on the Fourth of July, Memoirs of a Geisha, Far and Away, The Accidental Tourist, Home Alone and The Book Thief. His nearly 50-year artistic partnership with director Steven Spielberg has resulted in many of Hollywood’s most acclaimed and successful films, including Schindler’s List, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Indiana Jones films, Munich, Saving Private Ryan, The Adventures of Tintin, War Horse, Lincoln, The BFG and The Post. His contributions to television music include scores for more than 200 television films for the groundbreaking, early anthology series Alcoa Theatre, Kraft Television Theatre, Chrysler Theatre and Playhouse 90, as well as themes for NBC Nightly News (“The Mission”), NBC’s Meet the Press, and the PBS arts showcase Great Performances. In 2016, he received the 44th Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute – the first time in their history that this honor was bestowed upon a composer. In 2020, he received Spain’s Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, as well as the Gold Medal from the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society in the UK. In January 1980, Mr. Williams was named nineteenth music director of the Boston Pops Orchestra, succeeding the legendary Arthur Fiedler. He currently holds the title of Boston Pops Laureate Conductor which he assumed following his retirement in December 1993 after fourteen highly successful seasons. He also holds the title of Artist-in-Residence at Tanglewood. Mr. Williams has composed numerous works for the concert stage, among them two symphonies, and concertos commissioned by several of the world’s leading orchestras, including a cello concerto for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a bassoon concerto for the New York Philharmonic, a trumpet concerto for The Cleveland Orchestra, and a horn concerto for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. We understand that a certain number of copies of a score or part may be needed for judges at a festival or contest in which you or your organization is participating. If a work is not available for purchase and you are in need of copies for the judges' reference only, then you should submit your request for permission to make photocopies for contest use. The number of copies you would need in such a case is generally quite small (usually six or less) and all copies are to be destroyed after contest use. If you are seeking permission to make legal photocopies for your organization's music library or if you are seeking permission to make a significant number of photocopies (9 or more) you should submit your request for permission to make permanent photocopies. WILL THERE BE A FEE? HOW MUCH WILL IT BE? There will likely be a fee associated with processing your permission request.
