Carol Klose | Hal Leonard Carol Klose Carol Klose, an accomplished performer, teacher, clinician, composer, and arranger, taught piano and composition privately in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Formerly on the faculty of the Wisconsin College Conservatory of Music, she conducted workshops and master classes in the U.S. and Australia, specializing in student composition. With over 30 years in the music publishing field, her original works include piano solos, duets, art songs, a musical version of Dickens Christmas Carol, a book for teachers called "Creative Composition," as well as pieces in the Hal Leonard Student Piano Library and the NGPT Allison Contemporary Piano Collection. Randall Hartsell | Hal Leonard Randall Hartsell Randall Hartsell began his music career as a piano performance and pedagogy major at East Carolina University. His attention turned quickly to the joys of piano composition. Growing up in North Carolina provided inspiration to express the beauty of his native state with lyrical, romantic pieces. His music has expanded beyond the expressive melodic music to also include more advanced and technically demanding compositions as well as clever and creative elementary pieces. As a past adjunct faculty member of Pfeiffer University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Mr. Hartsell brings a wide range of experiences that enrich the lives of both students and teachers. Jodie Blackshaw | Hal Leonard Jodie Blackshaw Jodie Blackshaw (b. 1971) grew up in the south-east of rural Australia and formed a very personal relationship with music early in life through the creative application of her imagination to musical colors and movement. Today, she continues to seek creative experiences for students through her teaching and composing so they, too, may enjoy the personal relationship she discovered in her formative years. This includes the launching of her very own four-volume series “Teaching Performance Through Composition.” In 2020 Blackshaw completed her PhD in Composition with Dr. Christopher Sainsbury at the Australian National University. In addition to composing and presenting music education workshops, Blackshaw is passionate about fostering equality in concert programs, including schools. In 2018 she curated the website www.colourfullmusic.com to share diverse wind band programs created by leading conductors with the global wind music community. Wendy Stevens | Hal Leonard Wendy Stevens Wendy Stevens is a composer, pianist, teacher, and clinician.  She received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy and her Masters of Music in Theory and Composition from Wichita State University where she graduated summa cum laude. Wendy has been a recipient of the MTNA stAR award (Student Achievement Recognition Award) upon graduation. She has also taught theory at Wichita State University and adjudicates for music events in her area. In addition to her studio teaching, she has served as a church musician playing the piano for more than twenty years. Wendy is a member of MTNA, KMTA, and her local association WMMTA. She has served as president and many other positions in WMMTA, and has also served on the board for KMTA. She is a nationally certified teacher of music and is a member of ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. Pepper Choplin | Hal Leonard Pepper Choplin Pepper Choplin earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Master of Music degree in composition at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. His catalog currently includes over 200 anthems in addition to eight choral musicals. His musical experiences range from church musician to theme park entertainer. He has performed musical styles from rock to classical to bluegrass. In addition to his print music, he has four CDs of inspirational and humorous material including his new, Might as Well Laugh than Cry. His CD, Hold On, has inspired many to live through difficult times with faith and hope. Pepper leads events throughout the country as composer, clinician, conductor and entertainer. Audiences respond with laughter and with tears as he conducts and sings his unique mix of inspirational and humorous music in churches and conferences. Much of Pepper’s creative energy goes into planning creative and vibrant worship for Greystone Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC where he is Minister of Music. R. Kevin Boesiger | Hal Leonard R. Kevin Boesiger R. Kevin Boesiger received a Bachelor of Music Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a Masters of Music in Music Composition from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He is the Creative Arts Pastor at Christ Community Church in Beatrice where he has served since 1990. Boesiger was previously the Choral conductor for Southeast Community College in Beatrice where he directed the choir and served as the musical director for their stage productions for 12 years. He has studied with Mark Hayes, Dr. Randall Snyder, Tyler White and Boyd Bacon. Kevin performs and conducts on a regular basis for many community events, adjudicates and is a guest clinician for composer events. Rebecca Martin | Hal Leonard Rebecca Martin Rebecca Martin has been writing music since she was eight years old. Her compositions include piano solos and duets, vocal solos, choral pieces, hymns, arrangements and many children's songs. A native of Washington state, Rebecca studied piano performance, theory, technique and composition for ten years under the late Barbara Jensen of Tacoma. In 1988, Rebecca graduated in University Studies with an emphasis in English and Humanities from Brigham Young University, where she performed with the Women's Chorus. Rebecca has served as an adjudicator and music volunteer at elementary schools in her community. She has performed with, conducted and accompanied various adult, youth and children's choirs and taught private piano lessons. Rebecca loves composing and writing for youth and children, and is particularly devoted to encouraging young composers. She was honored by the Utah Composer's Guild which awarded her piano duet, Christmas Madness, Best Short Work of Contest and Best of Category in their 2001 International Composition Contest. James Pethel | Hal Leonard James Pethel James Pethel, born December 24, 1936, in Gainesville, Georgia, was the Distinguished Composer-in-Residence and Associate Professor of Music at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee for 37 years His undergraduate work was at Carson-Newman where he majored in organ and music education. As an NDEA scholarship recipient in 1960, he received his master's degree and did doctoral studies in music composition and theory at George Peabody College in Nashville where he was a student of Phillip Slates and Arnold Salop in composition. At Peabody his organ teachers included Scott Withrow, Sam Bate Owens, and Peter Fyfe. At North Texas State University, he studied organ with Don Willing and Charles Brown. While active at Carson-Newman as a member of the Music Department, Mr. Pethel taught organ, piano, composition, and theory. In addition to his recital work at C-N and churches, he also has served as organist in several churches. Also, Mr. Pethel has served as the sight-singing adjudicator for state vocal and choral association festivals in Tennessee for many years. A regular winner of ASCAP's Standard Award for significant creative work writing and publishing music since 1985, he has had over 250 titles published by 17 major publishing houses and has written several commissioned works including a choral work for the Governor's School for the Arts in l988. His favorite medium for writing is the organ, but he also writes and publishes for the piano, solo instruments, solo voice, and chorus as well. Mr. Pethel has been the nominee for Tennessee's Composer of the Year by music organizations in both Knoxville and Greenville, Tennessee. He was selected by Carson-Newman to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award in 1996. Also, he was honored by the Knoxville chapter of the American Guild of Organists with their Meritorious Award in recognition of his contributions to that organization and his musical activities and achievements as a composer in the field of music. Linda Spevacek | Hal Leonard Linda Spevacek Over the past two decades, Linda Spevacek has become one of the most successful composers in modern choral music. Linda has continued to keep her compositions original and creative while maintaining the consistency and integrity that has given her a world-renowned reputation. Karen Buckwalter | Hal Leonard Karen Buckwalter Karen Lakey Buckwalter, a distinguished organist, pianist, and composer, is Associate Minister of Music at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Hanover, PA. She currently directs the handbell program, coordinates the Saturday contemporary worship and is privileged to play a 231 rank Austin organ (14,341 pipes), the 5th largest church organ in the world. Mrs. Buckwalter is a 1974 graduate of Westminster Choir College, where she earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree and a 1977 graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied organ with Mr. John Weaver and earned the prestigious Artists Diploma in Organ Performance. In 2007, Mrs. Buckwalter successfully completed the Associate in Ministry program at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and is continuing her studies in the Masters in Religion degree program. Internationally known in the field of handbell composition, Mrs. Buckwalter composed her first published work, “Danza” in 1982. Eugenie Rocherolle | Hal Leonard Eugenie Rocherolle Composer, lyricist, pianist, and teacher, Eugenie Rocherolle began an early career in publishing with choral and band music. In 1978, with the success of her first piano solo collection, she soon established herself as one of the leading American composers of piano repertoire. Her music is widely distributed throughout the United States and abroad. A native of New Orleans, she graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University with a BA in music. Her junior year was spent in Paris where she had a class with the late Nadia Boulanger. She was honored as the 1995 outstanding Newcomb alumna. A "Commissioned by Clavier" composer, she was also one of seven composer members of the National League of American Pen Women whose works were chosen to be presented in a concert at the Terrace Theater of the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. Awards from the Pen Women include a first place for both piano and choral in biennial national competitions. Mrs. Rocherolle's creative output also includes works for solo voice, chorus, and orchestra; musical theater; and chamber music for a variety of mediums. She is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP); Connecticut Composers Inc.; and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Her biographical profile appears in the International Who's Who in Music, Baker's Biographical Dictionary of 20th Century Classical Musicians, International Encyclopedia of Women Composers, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the East. Kirby Shaw | Hal Leonard Kirby Shaw KIRBY SHAW has made a major impact in choral music education and has shared his musical expertise in 45 states, Canada, Australia, the Bahamas, China, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, and the Philippines.  Kirby has degrees in Music Education and Choral Composition from San Jose State University and a DMA degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington.  Dr. Shaw’s teaching is infused with a sense of humor and breadth of knowledge that is transmitted in an exciting and highly contagious manner.  Kirby taught in the Mt. Paul Lavender | Hal Leonard Paul Lavender As Vice President of Instrumental Publications for Hal Leonard Corporation, Paul Lavender directs the product development and marketing of Hal Leonard’s extensive catalog of performance publications for orchestra, concert band, marching band, and jazz ensemble, as well as instrumental books, collections and methods. Joseph M. Martin | Hal Leonard Joseph M. Martin Joseph Martin (b. 1959 ), a native of North Carolina, earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Subsequently he earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the University of Texas, Austin. Joseph taught for five years in the Piano Pedagogy Department of the University of Texas. His piano teachers include Jimmy Woodle, David Gibson, Amanda Vick Lethco, Martha Hilley and Danielle Martin. While at Furman University, he was accompanist for choral director and composer Milburn Price and, inspired by his teaching, Martin began to compose. He is a member of the staff of Shawnee Press as Director of Sacred Publications, with responsibilities for overseeing the editorial and creative direction of the company’s sacred publications and also coordinating the recording and production aspects of future sacred publishing efforts. Joseph has performed solo piano recitals and has been the featured artist with symphony orchestras in the United States and Mexico. As winner of the Nina Plant Wideman Competition, he performed with the Guadalajara Symphony Orchestra. His solo recital in Ex-convento del Carmen was broadcast nationally throughout the country. Though he continues to perform in concert, he now devotes his efforts to playing in churches and for conferences of church musicians His first solo piano recording, American Tapestry, was nominated for a Dove Award. This album, along with his other recordings (Songs of the Journey, Celtic Tapestry, and A Christmas Tapestry) has been enormously popular in the sacred and secular markets. He has recorded for Yamaha's Disklavier series and has composed hundreds of commissioned works. Mark Hayes | Hal Leonard Mark Hayes As a beginning piano student of ten years of age, Mark Hayes had little idea of the foundation he was laying for his future career in music. From those inauspicious beginnings in northern Illinois, his career has blossomed into international tours to Europe, the Far East, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Brazil. Now an internationally known writer, his music can be found in the music libraries of the finest churches and universities in the country and he is in increasing demand for choral clinics and concerts. Two exceptional piano teachers who encouraged Mark to develop improvisational skills within the first year of lessons guided his early musical training.
