Paul Wright | Hal Leonard Paul Wright Paul Leddington Wright was organ scholar at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge where he studied with Peter Le Huray, David Willcocks and Alan Ridout. On leaving Cambridge, he freelanced for four years working mainly in the professional theatre as a musical director. In 1982 he was appointed musical director for the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs, during which time he consolidated the work of the MAYC Singers and Orchestra, which he founded in the 70's. In 1984 he was appointed Organist and Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral, a position he held until 1995. During this period, he recorded and broadcasted frequently with the Cathedral Choir, and toured all over the world, including five trips to the US, Jamaica, and a trip to Italy, where the choir sang for the Pope. He directed the music for many important occasions at the Cathedral, including the Queen's visit to Coventry for the distribution of the Royal Maundy in 1995. Since 1984, he has been conductor of the Cathedral's choral society, the Saint Michael's Singers, with whom he has made over 20 recordings. Many of those recordings have been for the Kingsway Hymnmakers Series. A new series of the choir's recordings has been released in the USA under the Cathedral Classics - Coventry Music label. He has conducted a vast repertoire of choral literature with choirs and orchestras both in the UK and abroad. In 1995, he became parttime at Coventry in order to make space for an increasing work schedule at the BBC. He is the principal conductor for the weekly BBC TV program, Songs of Praise, and since 1986 has conducted over 150 programs all over the world. He is also a prolific arranger for the series. Major programs he has conducted have come from cathedrals, concert halls, and four programs from the Royal Albert Hall, London. In 2000, he conducted 65,000 people at the Cardiff Millennium Stadium. He is also involved with BBC Radio and conducts frequently for the Radio 4 Daily Service and also the Radio 4 Sunday Morning Worship. He also records for Radio 2's Sunday Half-Hour. Since 1991 he has been Artistic Director of the annual International Church Music Festival, which has alternated between Coventry Cathedral, Chester Cathedral and Bern, Switzerland. He was guest conductor for Belmont University's 2007 Christmas at Belmont which was recorded in Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Centre, and broadcast nationwide on PBS Christmas 2007 and 2008. Having replaced founder-member Simon Carrington in 1993, he performed more than 2,000 concerts with the group and appeared on many CDs, DVDs and on radio and TV programs worldwide. Deborah Brady | Hal Leonard Deborah Brady Music educator and composer Deborah Brady began her career while still an undergraduate, teaching keyboard theory courses at Shorter College. During the same period, she also taught private piano and guitar. Nationally certified by the American College of Musicians, Ms. Brady currently operates a thriving private studio and composes educational music. Some of her compositions appear in the NFMC 2008-2010 Festivals Bulletin. Before turning to full-time teaching and composing, Ms. Brady juggled roles as music director, performer, writer, arranger, vocalist and co-owner of an Atlanta-area recording studio with her husband, Tom. As a soloist, she has performed extensively throughout the southeast and has appeared on numerous regional television and radio programs. Mark Cabaniss | Hal Leonard Mark Cabaniss Mark Cabaniss is an ASCAP composer and arranger. His compositions have been successfully programmed in churches and schools nationally. Mark is a multiple recipient of ASCAP's Popular Music Award and an Angel Award as a producer. He is a member of The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and serves on the Board of Advisors for "The Music Man Square," a museum and foundation in Mason City, Iowa, dedicated to furthering music education and honoring the legacy of Meredith Willson (creator of Broadway's The Music Man). As a broadcaster, Mark has produced various live and broadcast productions for over 20 years. Production credits include Eventide: Voices in Song (syndicated) and Steve Allen's Great American Songwriters heard on National Public Radio (hosted by the late, legendary entertainer). Walter Ehret | Hal Leonard Walter Ehret Walter Ehret (1918 - 2009) was a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and Teachers College, Columbia University. He taught instrumental and choral music in New Jersey and New York for over 40 years. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at Hofstra University, Manhattanville College, and Teachers College, Columbia University. He retired as Coordinator of Music for the Scarsdale, New York public schools in 1984. Choirs under Ehret's direction performed in Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden, as well as on radio and television. They were invited to sing at New Jersey and New York State School Music Association conventions, divisional meetings of the Music Educators National Conference, and the first ACDA national convention. Ehret served as the first ACDA New York state president from 1961-1966. Walter Ehret was one of the nation's most prolific and respected choral editors and arrangers with over 2000 publications to his credit. In addition, he was co-author of Growing With Music, a basic music series (K-8); co-author of Functional Lessons in Singing, a class voice textbook; and author of the Choral Conductor's Handbook. Daniel Kallman | Hal Leonard Daniel Kallman Composer Daniel Kallman maintains a large and varied catalog of works for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensemble, and the young musician. He writes music for worship, theater, dance, and radio. Kallman's works have been performed across the United States and in Europe. He has written for the National Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Plymouth Music Series and has received support from the McKnight and Jerome Foundations and the American Composers Forum. Paul Langford | Hal Leonard Paul Langford A Chicago based singer, arranger, keyboardist, producer and conductor, Paul Langford has a career that spans over 25 years. His work includes arranging for and performing with groups such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chicagoland Pops, the Grand Rapids, Pensacola, Anderson (IN) and LaCrosse Symphony Orchestras and for Walt Disney World.¶As a singer and pianist, Paul has performed or recorded with Grammy Award winners Celine Dion, David Foster, Kenny Rogers, Yolanda Adams, Abraham Laboriel and Heather Headley, has shared the stage with Michael Buble and Josh Groban, and has performed for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Michelle Obama.¶His voice has been heard on radio and TV commericials for such companies as Ronald McDonald House, Oldsmobile, L.L. Patrick M. Liebergen | Hal Leonard Patrick M. Liebergen Patrick M. Liebergen (b. 1949) is widely published as a choral editor, arranger and composer, and is the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. With music degrees from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin; the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and the University of Colorado-Boulder, Dr. Liebergen has served in a variety of positions as a leader of church and school choral groups and has appeared throughout the United States and Canada as an adjudicator and clinician. He co-authored Monograph No. 4 published by ACDA and has written articles for Choral Journal. Listed in Who's Who in America, Dr. Liebergen has won the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association Composition Competition and the anthem contest sponsored by the Twin Cities Church Musicians Association. One of his choral works was featured in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas special, which aired on radio and television stations around the country. Rick Stitzel | Hal Leonard Rick Stitzel Rick Stitzel holds B.M.E. and M.M.E. degrees from the University of North Texas in Denton. His master's degree is in Jazz Studies. While at UNT, he studied with Leon Breeden, Dan Haerle, Rich Mattesen, Jack Peterson and Lew Gillis. He was a teaching assistant in the jazz area, directing the 3:00 lab band and teaching courses in jazz arranging and jazz fundamentals. Since graduation, he has been active in the fields of jazz education and professional music. He is in demand as a clinician and adjudicator, and has directed all-region and all-state bands. He is on the faculty at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, where he is director of jazz studies and a brass teacher. Rick is active in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a trumpet player and pianist. He is an artist/clinician for United Musical Instruments and plays the new Conn Vintage One Trumpet and Flugelhorn exclusively. Rick has enjoyed a busy career in the recording industry as a composer and arranger. He has composed music for hundreds of radio and television commercials, and has written for live and televised variety shows. His jazz compositions and arrangements are represented on the albums of Pete Petersen and the Collection Jazz Orchestra, The Jim Widner Big Band, and numerous college albums. Scott Watson | Hal Leonard Scott Watson Scott Watson, born 1962 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania has composed for concert, radio, and theater and received recognition for his work from ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, the American Music Center, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and others. His projects include commissions by the Lehigh County (Pennsylvania) Bandmasters Association, the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association, the International Horn Society Meir Rimon Fund, an American Composers Forum Continental Harmony project commission, West Chester University Wind Ensemble, Temple University Symphony Orchestra, and the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra,. Watson's music is published by Shawnee Press and other major publishers. Watson received his MM and DMA in Composition from Temple University, where his composition teachers include Maurice Wright and Matthew Greenbaum. Watson teaches instrumental and elective music in the Parkland School District (Allentown, PA), and serves as adjunct professor for Villanova University, Philadelphia Biblical University, and Central Connecticut State University. During the 2001-02 academic year, he served as Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Technology at Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music (Philadelphia, PA). Don Wyrtzen | Hal Leonard Don Wyrtzen Don Wyrtzen received an early start in music, radio and television while associated with his father, Dr. Jack Wyrtzen, founder of Word of Life International. As a graduate of The Moody Bible Institute, The King's College and Dallas Theological Seminary, he did graduate work in music at the University of North Texas. He has received several awards honoring him for his excellence in Christian ministry and music. Don has either arranged or composed over 400 anthems and sacred songs, many of which are now in standard church hymnals. In 1981 he received a Dove Award from the Gospel Music Association for the musical The Love Story. Don has also arranged, orchestrated and conducted for such major artists as Steven Curtis Chapman, 4-Him, Michael Card, Steve Green, Sandi Patty, The Gaither Vocal Band, First Call and Andy Williams. In the last few years he has become recognized as one of the leading musicians and statesmen in Christian music. He lectures on church music, worship and hymnology at many of the leading Christian colleges, universities and seminaries and is a widely sought speaker. Don and his wife, Karen, reside in Brentwood, Tennessee, where he is president of Don Wyrtzen Music Ministries. They have two grown children, a son, D.J. and a daughter, Kathleen.

Crawford R. Thoburn | Hal Leonard Crawford R. Thoburn More than one hundred of Crawford R. Thoburn's choral compositions, arrangements, and editions have been published. Choirs across the U.S. and throughout the world sing his music, with performances noted in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, England, Germany, Austria, France, South Africa, Singapore, India, and Taiwan. Professional, church, and college groups record his works, which have been broadcast on National Public Radio and Public Radio International. At Wells College in Aurora NY, Crawford R. Thoburn is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. His student choral groups have won international awards in juried competition, performed by invitation at ACDA conventions and MENC meetings, toured in the U.S. and Europe, performed with many other college groups, and sung with professional orchestras. He has conducted numerous inter-collegiate choral collaborations, and enjoys a national reputation for expertise in women's choral literature and performance. Professor Thoburn has a B.A. from Allegheny College, where he studied theory, arranging, and conducting with Morten J. Luvaas. In 1999, the Allegheny Alumni Association selected him to receive its prestigious Gold Citation, ""in recognition and appreciation of the honor reflected upon the college by virtue of his professional achievements."" At Boston University, Professor Thoburn received a M.M. and worked as an assistant to his instructor in voice and conducting, Allen C. Lannom. He later studied choral and orchestral conducting with Otto-Werner Mueller, Margaret Hillis, and Robert Shaw. While on a year-long sabbatical leave, he was a member of and soloist with the St. Martin Singers of London, England, under the direction of W. D. Kennedy-Bell. Crawford served on the first National Committee on Editorial Standards of the American Choral Directors Association. His scholarly articles have appeared in the American Choral Review, Wells College Express and the Choral Journal, where he headed the Choral Review Department for five years. At Wells, Professor Thoburn chaired the Music Department, the Division of the Arts, the Centennial Committee, the New Arts Facilities Committee, the Summer College Program, and the Faculty Advisory Committee, and he was named the first Campbell Professor of the Arts. Off campus, Crawford has served many years as a choral director for Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Episcopalian congregations. Michael Abene | Hal Leonard Michael Abene Michael Abene is a composer, arranger, keyboard player and record producer. Michael joined the Maynard Ferguson band while still a teenager and was responsible for writing some of the most-requested arrangements, such as "Green Dolphin Street," "Airegin," "Fox Hunt," "Chicago," "Whisper Not," "Knarf" and "Cherokee." Michael produced the Grammy-winning projects "Digital Duke" featuring the Duke Ellington Orchestra and "The GRP All-Star Big Band-All Blues." He produced the Grammy-nominated "GRP All-Star Big Band" and "The GRP All-Star Big Band Live" and received nominations in the arranging category for all three big band records. Other projects he has produced are "The GRP Christmas Collection Volumes 1, 2 and 3" (Volume 1 was awarded a gold record for sales of 500,000 units), "Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown," two projects for Billy Taylor, "... It's a matter of pride" and "Homage," "Maiden Voyage" for Nnenna Freelon plus projects for Billy Cobham, Eddie Daniels and Dave Valentin. Some of the other artists Michael has composed and arranged for are Take 6, Joe Lovano, Bireli Lagrene, Montreal fusion bassist Alain Caron, Dick Oatts, Dave Grusin, for which he received a 1998 Grammy nomination for the arrangement of "America" from "Dave Grusin Presents West Side Story," Chick Corea, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, Liza Minnelli, Charles Aznavour, Dave Taylor, Ronnie Cuber, Diva, the Metropole Jazz Orchestra in the Netherlands and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. Michael has also appeared as featured pianist and arranger/composer with the UMO Jazz Orchestra in Helsinki, WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany, the Rotterdam Conservatory Big Band (The Netherlands), Jazz Big Band Graz (Austria), Kluvers Big Band (Denmark) and the BBC Big Band in England. Michael also has produced and arranged for many singers, from pop and crossover artists Patti Austin and B.B. King, to classic jazz artists Grady Tate, Joe Williams, Chris Connor, New York Voices and Diane Schuur. Two works of Michael's were premiered during the summer of 2000: a piece he arranged for The Metropole Jazz Orchestra for seven trombones where each trombonist contributed an original and Michael composed opening and connecting sections allowing the piece to be played as a suite. This composition was performed at the International Trombone Festival in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The second composition was an original work commissioned by The Mancini Institute, where Michael has appeared as composer-in-residence, for bass trombonist Dave Taylor entitled "Heritage: New/Old and Then Some" and performed by The Mancini Institute Orchestra and Big Band. This work has also been performed by The Manhattan School of Music Studio Jazz Orchestra and in 2004 by The Amsterdam Conservatory Orchestra and Big Band. Two new compositions by Michael premiered in 2003 were "Odyssey for Brass," commissioned and performed by The Metropole Jazz Orchestra in Tilburg, The Netherlands and "Fragmentations" performed by the Slovenian Symphony and Radio Big Band. In the fall of 2003 Michael was appointed Musical Director, Principal Composer/Arranger of the WDR Radio Big Band of Cologne, Germany. Because of the response worldwide, Michael has made his compositions and arrangements available to schools and bands and serves as a clinician, and is currently working on his own 11-piece band consisting of two trumpets, french horn, tenor and bass trombone, three reeds and rhythm section. Michael joined the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in January 1998. In 2001 Michael was instrumental in creating a course entitled "Jazz Composition and Arranging for The Studio Orchestra" and in 2003, a Doctoral in Jazz program. Jerry Depuit | Hal Leonard Jerry Depuit Jerry DePuit graduated from the University of Michigan in 1972 and spent twelve years in New York City, where he worked as a vocal coach at New York University, the American Academy of Vocal Arts, and privately. As a musical director-pianist, he has worked for many New York cabarets and theatrical organizations, including the Manhattan Theatre Club and the Player's Club. He has also been musical director of and performed with numerous regional theaters, including twice for the Smithsonian Festival of American Folklife in Washington, D.C. Since 1985 he has been on the faculty of the Musical Theatre Department at the University of Michigan where he works as musical director, arranger/orchestrator, vocal coach, accompanist, and classroom instructor. Professor DePuit has appeared nationwide with cabaret artists, and on both the Today and Tomorrow shows telecasts. His work as an arranger has been heard on recordings, in numerous pops concerts, at the Metropolitan Opera House, and Radio City Music Hall. He has orchestrated three original musicals, including A Wonderful Life by Joe Raposo and Sheldon Harnick, arranged and orchestrated several full-scale revues and many smaller ones, helped reconstruct the original score of Love Life (a 1948 musical by Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner), and has written many new arrangements of extant works, both choral and instrumental. Livingston Gearhart | Hal Leonard Livingston Gearhart Pianist, educator, composer and arranger Livingston Gearhart (Born, Buffalo, NY 12/31/1916; died Buffalo, NY July 14, 1996) is probably best known for his hit arrangement of the classic “Dry Bones” and his “Session Series” of skills-building books. Gearhart attended the Curtis Institute of Music. Subsequent studies in France included composition with Nadia Boulanger, Igor Stravinsky, Darius Milhaud and piano with Robert Cadadesus and Isodor Philipp. During 1941 to 1954, the two-piano team of Morley and Gearhart performed over 2000 concerts throughout the US and Canada in addition to recording for Columbia Masterworks and Decca Records. Gearhart also made numerous TV and radio appearances on the Fred Waring Show, for which he wrote as staff arranger. A two-CD retrospective, “Morley and Gearhart Rediscovered” (Ivory Classics), features 22 of Gearhart’s two-piano arrangements. In 1955 Gearhart joined the University of Buffalo Music Faculty, retiring to Professor Emeritus status in 1985. As an author and teacher, Gearhart delighted in composing lively, stimulating music for young singers and instrumentalists. His quest for effective teaching materials is particularly striking in the “Sessions Series.” These books are enriched by Gearhart’s special blend of humor and pedagogy. These ensemble collections for 2, 3, and 4 players contain a variety of styles, musical surprises and curiosities. Darwin Wolford | Hal Leonard Darwin Wolford Darwin Wolford (b. 1936) was Director of Organ Studies and a member of the music faculty at Brigham Young University-Idaho (formerly Ricks College) in Rexburg, Idaho until his retirement in 2004. Born in Logan, Utah, his early piano training began with Irving Wasserman. He graduated from Utah State University, located in Logan, in 1960. He received a Master of Music degree in 1963 and a Ph.D. in organ and composition, with a minor in philosophy, in 1967 from the University of Utah. He studied organ with Robert Cundick and Alexander Schreiner. His composition teachers included LeRoy Robertson, John LaMontaine and Ned Rorem. The two latter of which are Pulitzer Prize winning composers. He has written widely for choir, orchestra, organ, piano and a variety of other instruments. His works are heard regularly on the Tabernacle Choir's CBS radio broadcast. He is listed in the International Who's Who In Music. Dr Wolford served for many years as a member of the LDS Church's General Music Committee and was a member of the Executive Hymnbook Committee that was responsible for the publication of Hymns of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1985). He also assisted in the preparation of the Church's publication for children, Children Songbook (1989). He has well over 350 published compositions with Shawnee Press and other publishers. Samuel R. Hazo | Hal Leonard Samuel R. Hazo Samuel R. Hazo (b. 1966) resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife and children. In 2003, Mr. Hazo became the first composer in history to be awarded the winner of both composition contests sponsored by the National Band Association. He has composed for the professional, university and public school levels in addition to writing original scores for television, radio and the stage. His original symphonic compositions include performances with actors Brooke Shields, James Earl Jones, David Conrad and Richard Kiley. Most recently, Mr. Hazo was asked by the Newtown School District to compose the memorial for the children and women who were lost in the tragedy at their Sandy Hook Elementary School. The result was a major work for Choir, Orchestra and Wind Band combined titled "Glorificare." It was premiered in May of 2013 by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and VOCE Singers performing side-by-side with the Newtown High School musicians. Mr. Hazo also composed "Bridges," which he was requested to write by Virginia Tech University following their tragic shootings. In 2012, two of Mr. Hazo's compositions were performed at the London Summer Olympic Games. On the Internet, Mr. Hazo's music has compiled over three million hits on YouTube. His compositions have been performed and recorded world-wide, including performances by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (national tour), the Birmingham Symphonic Winds (UK) and the Klavier Wind Project’s recordings with Eugene Migliaro Corporon. Additionally, numerous titles of Mr. Hazo's works are included in the series "Teaching Music Through Performance in Band." He has served as composer-in-residence at Craig Kirchhoff’s University of Minnesota Conducting Symposium and has also lectured on music and music education at universities and high schools internationally. In 2004, Mr. Hazo's compositions were listed in a published national survey of the "Top Twenty Compositions of All Time" for wind band. He is a member of ASCAP and recipient of multiple ASCAPlus Awards. Samuel R. Hazo has been a music teacher at every educational grade level from kindergarten through college, including tenure as a high school and university director. He has been invited to guest conduct over 60 university ensembles and half of All-State bands in America. Mr. Hazo was twice named “Teacher of Distinction” by the southwestern Pennsylvania Teachers’ Excellence Foundation. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Duquesne University where he served on the Board of Governors and was awarded as Duquesne’s Outstanding Graduate in Music Education. Roy Ringwald | Hal Leonard Roy Ringwald Roy Ringwald (August 10, 1910 - July 11, 1995) Born in Helena, Montana, he grew up in Santa Monica, California and resided in the Palos Verdes Hills at the time of his death. Choir leaders everywhere rated Roy Ringwald as one of the most accomplished arrangers of our time. Before joining Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians as a singer and arranger in 1935, Roy Ringwald was associated with Earl Burnett, Raymond Paige and Andre Kostelanetz. His exclusivity with Shawnee Press began when the firm was founded in 1939. In the early 1940's, at Fred Waring's request, Mr. Ringwald arranged the poem ""The Battle Hymn of the Republic,"" which was written by Julia Ward Howe. The arrangement was performed by Waring's Pennsylvanians on radio June 22, 1943. Fans inundated Mr. Waring's New York office with letters of praise. By 1962, one million copies of the SATB arrangement had been sold and it continues to be a steady seller today. Roy Ringwald's studies in the field of music were limited to the elementary courses he received in parochial and public schools. Thereafter, he studied on his own and learned ""the hard way."" He was playing the piano at paid engagements with a dance group by the age of 12. While in high school, he studied voice, piano, organ, sight-singing, harmony, score reading and history of music. He organized dance bands and pit bands for silent motion pictures; he served as school organist and student director of the glee club; and he played viola with a classical string quartet (rehearsing at 6:30 a.m. before school), which also played paid engagements. Following high school, he went directly into a professional career as performer and arranger, organizing his own professionally successful groups. When he joined Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians in 1935, he soon retired from performing and devoted his entire attention to writing. His work as an arranger and composer has an individuality of style that has retained its freshness over many years. Battle Hymn of the Republic; Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor; God Bless America; and No Man Is An Island are but a few of the hundreds of his stirring arrangements. His larger works such as Song of America and Song of Christmas are further evidence of his talent. Roy Ringwald continued to write music until his death July 11, 1995 at the age of 84. Howard Helvey | Hal Leonard Howard Helvey Howard Helvey (b. 1968) resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he is active as a composer, arranger and pianist, and serves as organist and choirmaster of historic Calvary Episcopal Church. Nationally and internationally, he is in frequent demand as a composer, conductor, speaker, and member of the Steinbach/Helvey Piano Duo. Known particularly for his choral music, Mr. Helvey maintains an extremely active writing schedule, and his hundreds of compositions and arrangements are published by all the leading music publishers. His compositions have been featured on numerous recordings, national television and radio broadcasts, in such eminent concert venues as New York's Carnegie Hall, the Walt Disney Concert Hall (LA), the Meyerson Symphony Center (Dallas), the White House, the National Cathedral (Washington, D.C.), and many locations throughout Europe and Asia. Designated an undergraduate Chautauqua Scholar, he pursued additional studies in piano at New York's Chautauqua Institution. Michael Philip Mossman | Hal Leonard Michael Philip Mossman Michael Philip Mossman, Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at the Copland School of Music at Queens College (NYC), has been active on the international scene since the age of 17. After stints as lead trumpet with the Machito Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, Michael became the musical director of Blue Note Records' group, Out of the Blue, with whom he recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Gerry Mulligan, Joe Zawinul, Slide Hampton, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Jon Faddis, George Gruntz, Bob Mintzer, Steve Turre, Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, Tom Pierson, Benny Carter, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, and the Charles Mingus, Gil Evans, and Count Basie Orchestras. Michael has played lead trumpet with the Michel Camilo Big Band, the Jon Faddis Orchestra, the Chico O'Farrill Orchestra, and the Jimmy Heath Big Band among many others. Since then, Mr. Mossman has been a key performer in Latin jazz. Overview / Synopsis The idea of turning Harold Gray's "Little Orphan Annie" into a musical comedy was the inspiration of lyricist-director Martin Charnin, who convinced Charles Strouse and librettist Thomas Meehan to join in creating it. The show, which places Annie, Daddy Warbucks and Annie's mutt, Sandy, in New York City in the midst of the Depression, opened on Broadway on April 21, 1977. As an infant, Annie had been abandoned on the front steps of The New York City Municipal Orphanage with a note from her parents promising to return for her someday. Life in the orphanage had been rough under the strict hand of Miss Hannigan, but Annie's life was about to change. Billionaire Oliver Warbucks invites Annie to spend Christmas with him in his mansion, and together, they each discover new happiness. Warbucks soon decides he wants to adopt Annie, but when he learns about her dream of finding her parents and the secret of the half-locket she has treasured for so long, he sets his own feelings aside and orders an exhaustive search for Annie's parents. Annie went on to win seven Tony awards and became the third longest running musical of the 1970s with 2,377 performances. It also won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. They need to have vocal strength and be visually expressive. Miss Hannigan Miss Hannigan is definitely a has-been, whose acrid delivery of her lines and torch-like rendition of her songs must distinguish her from the rest. She must be strong vocally with a good sense of comic timing. Grace Farrell Grace Farrell is mature, calm, cool and together. She is businesslike when dealing with Miss Hannigan and Warbucks, yet maternal toward Annie. Vocally, she has challenging intervals to handle in "N.Y.C." Rooster Hannigan and Lily St. Regis Rooster Hannigan and Lily St. Regis are a team who play off each other's lines constantly. Rooster is flashy, self-assured and the leader; Lily is always distracted and bringing up the rear. Both need to be strong vocally and visually. Oliver Warbucks Oliver Warbucks is the most challenging role for this age group. This actor must appear middle-aged, self-assured and confident. His posture, walk and speech patterns are very important. Servants, Drake, Mrs. Greer, Mrs. Pugh Servants, Drake, Mrs. Greer, Mrs. Pugh are the most fastidious of domestic help - your actors will have fun perfecting precision steps, nods and curtsies.
